. . . or are they two sides of a coin, not to be separated?

Speaking of coins, poor Rued didn't have gold ducats issued in his honour, but Franz Joseph did.

Haydn is awesome.  Haven't heard anything by Langgaard.

What a weird dichotomy !  It's like choosing between Italian and Ethiopian quisine !
Haydn is one of the most famous composers, although much of his vast output is little-known.
Langaard is a composer few people outside Denmark have ever heard of, and totally unknown outside of Denmark until very recently.  I don't even think his music is performed live much in his native country, except for some recent revivals.  I've heard several of his symphonies , and have the Da Capo CD of his opera or oratorio? Antichrist, which is most interesting .

Next up should be Henning vs. Wuorinen!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

I love Haydn unconditionally but, you know, I can't bring myself to vote against Rued. I just can't do that to him. Hasn't he suffered enough?  :D

So, I'm taking the banana option despite the fact it isn't offered.

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Voted Rued, admittedly partly as an act of defiance - but probably in the spirit of Rued however ::)  :D

I´d rather listen to one selected Langgaard piece than one selected Haydn piece - like the 4th Symphony, for example. The "Nelson Mass" comes close, though.

The OP feels awfully wicked.

When you're walking home tonight and some great homicidal maniac comes after you with a bunch of loganberries, don't come crying to me!

Shouldn't this thread be in the section where all the other polls are located?
