This is kinda like that: http://www.camelcamelcamel.com/. I forget who originally posted it, but it may be of interest.

Yes, but if it could search for a predetermined price differential
-- you could capture many of those insane prices Amazon occasionally
posts as a initial offering - typically they are short lived deals
and a couple of days later are 3 to 4 times as expensive
"...when the night came, tortured by the usual melancholy of my thoughts, taking a vihuela,
I went out by a back door to the fields, to put aside my worries, and to enjoy the fresh wind
that was blowing..." Rojas, 1603

Nice CD! I saw Ades and Marwood perform the Violin Concerto with the BSO at Symphony Hall  last year.

Sweet! I can't wait to hear it. I bet that was a great performance.

The jazz and the Deep Purple are mandatory purchases, thus not covered by the "discretionary clause" of the definition.

I felt that I had come down with a serious case of CDCDCD after digging through E-Bay for (good) remasters of the first six Black Sabbath albums after buying all of this.  But based on Gurn's reasoning, I'm in the clear!  The first six Sabbath albums are certainly mandatory purchases, and given that my previous copies have long been worn out from spending too much time in the car, it is clear that it was time for an upgrade!

I have never seen one classical recording which has the "use discretion", "buy at your discretion", or even "parental discretion" sticker on it. We are all in the clear.

The 1-star review is pretty funny, bearing in mind the title, concept and cover art of the album:
"In a moment of weakness after reading the reviews I purchased it. Was very disappointed. I guess if you are into Halloween music it would be ok - maybe."

I couldn't quite decipher the pieces though.

btw- as to CDCDCD, I've had to get my money back from Ebay, for that first purchase that started off the current outbreak. I just got the last consolation cd yesterday... I'm still jones-ing for 'stuff', but I seriously don't WANT anything.

Other, 'real life' stuff has happened and I'm depressed, but I have no RELEASE.

THAT'S IT!!! New RELEASES!!!

AHHHHHHH!!!!!! :o :o :o :o

I can't BELIEVE the flareup I'm experiencing,... ever since that initial Ebay purchase that went missing (and I did get the money back) I have been struggling to neatly fold my addiction so I can move on to something else. >:D

I really don't NEED to get anything, but the postal service is not arriving when I think it should, and that is causing me to keep pushing the button. Thankfully, I'm still basically keeping to the $5 and under rule, but soon those bargains will be depleted leaving only full price and ridiculous used prices.

Oy,...just be happy with what you have, just be happy with what you have, jus...

I JUST walked in the door, from the mailbox, with 'the package' hidden under my shirt.

Someone unfamiliar with this Thread might well ask, Why, my good man, would you feel the need to hide your pride?

Mmm...

I'm just saying, I DID just 'feel' the need to sneak a package passed the guardian of the house. Even if I think myself to be a sane and rational being, I question the cowardice. Should I not go up to said guardian, flaunting, saying, Here is my vanity which I wave before you. Do your worst!

Ah, manhood!

Well, it IS 'supposed' to be 'The Last CD',... for now, of course,... but, seriously, I have been struggling to keep the 'weakness' going, but, I'm... gasp :o... SATISFIED with what I have!! :o I mean, if the next purchase on The List is Pollini's Late Beethoven, I mean, come ON! ::),... what hurry IS there? :-* 8)

Frankly,... and trust me,... I'm sure it's the extenuating circumstances right now that are keeping me from buying frivolities, and not the fact that I can't 'come up' (create drama) with stuff to 'buy'.

Otherwise, I have to be clear, the Music-Base I have now (in my spirit) is telling me that I've 'graduated' this level, and I can now proceed with Composing & Performing. At this point, the definition of 'listening' has changed for me. Things are exciting!

CDCDCD Axiom:

'Buy until you're satisfied, then stop'

My List has been fulfilled, I am up to date, I have transcended my desire.

Now,... who's this Wagner fellow? :) ;D

I'm proud of myself. I've bought some progressive rock recordings recently, but I haven't went crazy with anything. I've been keeping myself in check and trying to immerse myself in what I already own and haven't heard yet (i. e. still listening to Ozawa's BSO Ravel recordings).

At last count I had roughly 1100 discs to listen to. About half from big boxes, the rest individual discs or downloads I transferred to disc - tons of them. It's a money pit, and a time pit too. The big boxes especially are an almost unsurmountable challenge. It's easy to get a disc or two from the shelf, but when will I ever have time to listen to the 50 cd set of Liège Philharmonic recordings, or the 70 disc Callas box?  :P

I'm afraid lobotomy is the only effective cure...

Nah, I've already had one. Didn't do any good....  :-\

:-\You haaave got yourself into quite a pickle there. mm

Do you only get one listen, then, and it's off to the mothballs?

Good question. The mothballs are definitely waiting any recording of music I know* which I deem of low artistic interest. That* may be 1/3 of them, as I tend to duplicate lots of works  - mostly symphonies, concertos, Masses and sundry Requiems. Then there are those that grab my attention: a second listening is always in order, then it's car-listening fodder, where it can be subjected to 1-3 additional hearings. When it's music I'm unfamiliar with it depends either on the music or the interpretation. As a rule I will shelve a recording that failed to arouse any interest or an interpretation that raised strong objections. As Forrest Gump used to say, the music pile is like a box of chocolates: you never know what to expect.

I give music and musicians a fair hearing. I'm never proceeding hastily to the next disc. Each ecording get at least two spins, unless they're clunkers. Even music that resolutely evades my understanding or ruffles my sensibilities gets a fair trial hearing. That's the case right now: my in-car listening this week includes a disc of percussion music by Norgärd, Xenakis and Gudmundsen-Holgreen.

You can send it to me! ;D It's the best performance of 'Psappha', and the Norgard piece is quite exotic at the other extreme. You can take the other third piece much less seriously.

I'd SellItNow! Clear out the riff raff. I have cds that I listen to often,... surely you listen to favs more than a few times?

I know some people haven't grasped the concept of selling, or just getting rid of it... charity? You need to listen to the new stuff. Get crackin'! Life's exciting,... you can do this!! :-*

Do you have any nice vintage jewel case, nya, nya, nya, drool :P , drool!! :P
