Awesome, Daniel! The Rose Lake is a great work. One of my favorites from late-Tippett and I do mean late as he was 90 years old when composed it! 8)

After listening to Die Zauberflöte on the radio, now I need something completely different:

Dmitri Shostakovich
Symphony No.13

The EMI disc was a first listen for me, outstanding playing, the live performances are quite thrilling. This makes four Argerich recordings in my collection and I really want to explore more. Any suggestions? I also own her Schumann/DG and Prokofiev PC#3 and 1 with Dutoit.

A great recording so far. Listening to the Viola Concerto. Who knew Lapland had a chamber orchestra? ??? Good to see classical music reaches even the most remote of places. 8)

Greg, this DG chamber collection is pure awesomeness - Tchai & Shosty #2 trios with Kremer & Maisky, add Bashmet for Brahms Quartet no. 1, then the piano duos with Freire (La Valse, Rach Dances, etc), Pletnev (Proko Cinderella transcription by Pletnev, Ma mère l'oye), the piano duo (with Freire) with percussion in Bartók, Ravel Ma mère & Rapsodie espagnole transcription, and some other stuff.

Thanks, John! Just about to go and post some comments on the Tippett thread. I find it amazing he wrote such a work at the age of 90... :)

For something a bit different, you could get her piano pieces from various Lugano performances. It includes a lot of duos, but the range of music is quite interesting (and has one of my favorite  Kinderszenen ever).

Yes, that would be funny. Too bad John hasn't been around in awhile. I miss the ol' bloke.

I knew...

They built a new hall for them in Rovaniemi recently (under a year ago), should be superb acoustics there, made especially for recording smaller ensembles. John Storgårds has been doing a wonderful job there.

Yeah, Rovaniemi, for those reading and don't know, is the capital of Lapland. Anyway, I knew you would know you're Finnish! I'm quite familiar with Storgards' work. He is most certainly doing some great things, especially Aho and Klami.

Yeah, if you don't know Rovaniemi, it's the place with this:

From Spotify:

Ravel
Concerto pour la main gauche
Samson Francois & Cluytens

The ending is certainly something Williams had heard before making the Star Wars music...
