All Paavo had to do was sharpen his Baton before recording - he didn't.  Great that Paavo did it, but sad he doesn't meet the finer points.  I may have to step in and get it done the way I want to hear it. ??? 0:)

Karl, I really need to go back and listen again, but a few thoughts come to mind: 1. this performance is extremely well-played, 2. Salonen conducts with more of a wild abandonment that I'm not so used to hear in him, and 3. the last movement is one of the best I've heard in quite some time. These are just first impressions. I've only listened to it once. I seriously wish he would do a Shostakovich cycle.

I own it as well and, yes, it's very good. The Sleep is especially haunting.
