I've been listening to the concert as well, Barenboim was splendid in Beethoven! :)

Sonata for Clarinet & Piano transcribed for Viola.
Adler's playing of the transcribed Sonata is enjoyable, but I prefer the clarinet version if for the sole reason I find the timbre of the clarinet to be more suited to the piece (as it should be, since it was written for that instrument).  I find Adler's playing to be a little to rough.

Certainly! Currently, there is an very interesting, amusing interview, Barenboim talking about Beethoven. Enjoying it very much, and looking forward to watching his performance of the 2nd symphony in a few minutes! :)

So am I, that's really very interesting! :) Is the concert being broadcast on TV there? What luck!

Symphony no.2 has just finished, absolutely great performance! Barenboim really is a remarkable conductor, what confidence he has in the orchestra!
Ilaria - yes, this particular concert and various other Prom concerts are broadcasted on the BBC, this was on BBC 4. I think that if you are able to access 'BBC Iplayer' in Italy, you will be able to watch recordings of these concerts up to 7 days after the concert. :)

Cello Concerto

One of the few pieces of Elgar that I like.  The scoring of the first movement is brilliant (such as restrained use of the full orchestra for where the cello isn't playing).

Add Sea Pictures to the list off Elgar I like.  The music was just beautiful.

I agree, the 2nd Symphony was absolutely beautiful! Barenboim's interpretation was really splendid, he did a marvelous performance in the 1st Symphony as well; I think he didn't show only his great confidence with the orchestra, but also his confidence with Beethoven's music. ;) Looking forward to listening to the other concerts of the Beethoven Cycle!
Thank you for the suggestion, Daniel; have a nice evening! :)
