I was about to say "the library" but then the greedier part of my nature took over.

Well, my first impulse was "You can always send them to me," but then I thought of the postage, and then of the continuously rising state of my wife's eyebrows as the crates started to pile up on the front lawn, and I thought better of it...
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Five years on from my initial 'no' response, I must say now that yes, I do have too many CDs.  I've been buying at about a 300 disc per year clip.  I've got piles, mounds, and heaps of CDs, in addition to six full racks.  I'm ready to take baby steps to solve the problem.  I've got one grocery bag of CDs ready to go the local used CD hut.  Any they don't take go to the library.  I must repeat the process.  Do I really need a dozen sets of Ravel's piano music?

Yep, I have too many CDs.  I want to get rid of them, but it is time consuming trying to sell them.

I could have written this. I would like to sell off about a third of my collection, but the time involved is way more than I have available. A solution is out there, just not entirely sure when it will crop up... :-\

When the contents begin to overflow, I put together a bag or two and take it to the local Half Price Books where they pay me a pittance for all that good stuff.

It's a good thing to do. Unfortunately, I don't have anything local. Not even a library, really.

No, eleven will do.  Since I only have two,  that leaves me nine to go :)

I used to keep my CDs in my bedroom.  Now I sleep in the room which has all my CDs :)

You might at least consider dumping them off at the local library or senior citizen's center, or even a charity like Goodwill or a local church -- they might be able to raise a little money, and there's always a chance that your castoff bit of Mozart might end up as someone's first taste of it, and bring some happiness into the world.  Worth a shot!

Oh, I know - I was being just a tad facetious - but my local used CD shops are getting very picky about what they take, and the library too.  Even they don't want just anything.  I've stood around a used CD shop for over an hour waiting for them to look over my bag and then tell me they'll only take half and offer me $1 for each one.  Considering how many CDs I'd like to dump - that kind of process is not a practical solution.

Goodwill may take boxes sight unseen - don't know.  I'd love to be able to drive my truck over and unload 20 boxes at a time.

Maybe if you didn't charge $60 for Stravinsky/Bernstein?? ;D ;D ;D That is you, right?

btw- guess which Tokyo String Quartet cd 'we' just acquired?

Also, to OP's Post: NO,... just right,... I have 2 cds in the sell/skeet pile,... I have actually taken to the trashcan instead of the ebay. :o I now understand why record stores will give you money for the jewel cases (when they don't even want the cd).

If I had Stravinsky/Bernstein, I would give it to you. Nope, I don't want to retire off my collection, just fund a new shelving unit for the stuff I want to keep. :)

I would rather give my cd's away than get such a ridiculous price for them.

I buy a lot of remasters or repackaged opera recordings, for example the EMI Great Recordings of the century operas have great photographs of the recording sessions or have better sound.
So I buy my favorite operas a second time, but I am finding it difficult to get rid of the first version, even though I never listen to it again...
The first half of life is spent in longing for the second, the second half in regretting the first.

My view is that "too many" is never an option.  I have many thousands of Cds and wish I had many thousands more.

I don't have too many CDs. I have not enough space, money and time.

Now is the time to buy CDs, not sell them.

I sold a stack of them last night along with some books and DVDs. None of the CDs were classical.

Ditto on both accounts.  :)
