I like this set because she also has the sinfonia concertante on it and its played well. Theres something about her that really moves me...ohh and the music is quite emotional too. I accidentally stumbled on Brahms e minor cello sonata and what a fortuitous fall! I have been wanting to get more into Brahms chamber works and this is a nice start.

Great pieces, and Brahms' chamber music is top! :)

For the cello sonatas I recommend Rostropovich/Serkin or for HIP: Wispelwey/Komen (Channel Classics)

Come to think of it, I remember some Brahms piano trios that I listened to early in my classical music exposure and I liked them...I need to find those again!

Bruckner Symphony No. 9 performed by Mravinsky/Leningrad PO. More attacking brass, but here it almost borders to piercing from time to time (and not with the same control like Staatskapelle Dresden). But excitement and Mravinsky go hand in hand, and this recording is an attention-grabber. Not a first choice, but a very fascinating reading quite far away from the more standard Germanic approach.

I hope you're not talking about the recent set that she released of the Mozart concertos. That Sinfonia Concertante has some of the most embarrassing orchestral playing I've heard recently. Just listen to how they fall apart just after the first minute of the first movement from the violins rushing. Embarrassing that DG would release something like that and just not, you know, record it again. They whole piece feels that way to me, with the soloists pushing against the orchestra and there are some bizarre musical choices which I find to be common in a lot of Mutter's recordings. It looks like she made a mistake recording the set without a conductor. There are definitely a lot of better recordings of this piece and I recommend Heifetz/Primrose, Grumiaux/Pellicia, Kussmaul/Christ, and Oistrakh/Oistrakh.
