Soli Deo Gloria

Posted in the app thread but I'll mention it here. There's a Classify app on Spotify which I like to use when looking for new things to listen to.

Yes, I was using it just today.

Try out the Rossini piano music on the Classify app - you might be quite surprised at how good it is.
Cheers

Staying with the "gorgeous French soprano" theme.....

Wow, I just became a subscriber to Spotify this week, and have already found it an essential component for my listening. It truly is a great service! Wow again!

Hi all,

Have a look at this, truly excellent work if you haven't seen it already...

I've been dipping into the Martha Argerich and Friends discs from Lugano last year.

Fantastic music making.  I mean take a listen to the Adagio from Ravel's piano concerto.  Only the hardest of heart surely would turn their noses up at this!

Rattle's Tchaikovsky Nutcracker is there.  Love that recording.  Best of all I've heard by quite a large margin.

If you like this one, you will like previous editions in the series (assuming you don't have them all already :)). I like the varied composers they choose as well as the many different types of pieces (showcasing a wide range of talent and soloists).
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

I have stored a new playlist called Gramophone Awards 2012 which contains (not surprisingly) as many of the discs shortlisted for the Gramophone magazine 2012 awards as I could find.

I managed to find 25 of 39.  Would be much higher if Hyperion signed up!

Just type in "Gramophone Awards 2012" in the search box and it should appear as a playlist to which you can subscribe

A couple of recent Gramophone magazine recommendations that really impressed

Both gorgeous recordings for those that care about the quality of the recorded sound itself

I have subscribed to some playlists put together by a member.  He has done many of chronological complete lists for several composers; e.g. Mozart, Brahms, as well as some contemporary composers like Nancarrow, Schoenberg.  He also has lists of "Best of 2012".

Look for them by searching "ulyssestone".

Is that the person with the Spotify Classical blog?

For a classical music fan his playlists are a great resource on Spotify.   A favorite list of mine is his Naxos 18th Century Classics.

I'll look into it! Thanks much.

stingo

I've dipped into his Varese playlist and liked it a lot.
I would also recommend the Classify app (if that's not ulyssestone's app mentioned above).

Yes, both look like good apps. The more Spotify classical apps, the better. :)
