I have that CD. Aftertones of Infinity is an excellent work, but this performance is so underpowered. I have an MERCURY LP that is so much better.

You must mean this recording

I don't have access to that one - but I agree the work is fine.

Is this set a recent acquisition? (pardon me, lots of studies at the moment)
What do you think of the piece? (or other stuff in the box, if  you've heard them)

Thread duty: haven't listened much this week, shall get the rest of my last year's order soon from the post, though.

Nice disk, Florestan. Despite being a piano specialist, Dussek apparently knew his way around a string quartet too. :)

Now;

This highly enjoyable rendition of some of Luigi's cello & fortepiano works, along with the Op 119 Bagatelles. I like bagatelles, and these are very well done. In addition, Ms. Tomkins is a great 'new find' in the ranks of PI cellists. Never have enough 1st rate cellists! :)

Part belongs to my top 10 favourite composers, and rightly so, for the simplicity of his compositions, and the religious orthodox basis of it, culminate for me almost into heavenly bliss eternal. Whatever angle I approach his music, it always leaves me satisfied. Somehow it enhances the silence in me, and opens up spirituality, a ideal combination.

The disc in my player is one I treasure, first because of the beautiful recording, but foremost for its content, for three works of equal quality are brought together in excellent interpretations. Fratres is a awe inspiring piece of great intensity, and well brought out by Gil Shaham, Tabula rasa, played by this angel on snares Adele Anthoney, and Shaham together, is dreaming yourself into silence on a ride of simple notes and motives. Neither is there complexity in the Third Symphony, but what a utterly convincing work this is, not much going on, but less is eternity with Part, and it reaches a perfect harmony and spiritual balance. The Gothenburg SO under Jarvi, give us a masterly performance, that leaves no wishes open.

That's a great recording, Harry.

I'm not fond of Järvi's Sixth but the First is rather good.

Absolutely. They are lovely and well-crafted. As for Dussek himself, he was praised by none other than the ever kind Haydn:

I am happy to inform you that you have an upstanding, polite, and musically gifted son. I love him as you do, as he has earned it. Give him your blessing, so that he will be always happy, something that I wish for him, given his great talents.
