Hello everyone, this is to introduce myself as a new member. I look forward with much pleasure to reading the threads and hope to contribute from time to time.

After responding to the urging of a schoolmate to listen to a music appreciation programme on the BBC in 1948, I fell instantly and deeply in love with classical music and opera, remain enchanted and have acquired quite a large collection of 78 rpm, LP, cassette, Minidisc and CD recordings. Favourite composers are Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Elgar, Vaughan Williams. Favourite conductors Klemperer, Bernstein, Boult, Barbirolli; favourite solo artists Brendel, Perahia, Ashkenazy;  favourite singers are Callas, Di Stefano, Pavarotti, Sutherland.

With all best wishes,

Geordie T

To Bogey,

Regretfully I cannot post the pictures you requested because the 78s were disposed of many years ago. There were about 50, and I well recall the sweat of hauling them around in a case from home to Edinbugh by train as a student every term. The first ever purchased was Beecham's recording of Mendelssohn's 'Midsummer Night's Dream' Overture - played to death with a pickup weighing a ton that slowly ground it's way through the shellac!
The arrival of LP cast the 78s into a deep shade from which they never emerged I'm afraid, and eventually they were disposed of as junk. How I wish there had been the possibility of converting to files and saving on a computer. Happily I still have the Beecham/Mendelssohn on a cd. All but the 78s are still treasured in the collection by the way.
Sorry!

Howdy there Hollywood79. Greetings from Hollywood here in Vienna. Austria. Welcome to the forum.

I'm a bit curious to know about your username. This is the first time I have come across another person's username that had Hollywood in it. Do you have a special connection to it as I do? Mine being that I was born in Hollywood, California. Just wondering... 8)

To Hollywood,
Greetings from Hollywood 79!
No connections with Hollywood SoCal I'm afraid, but with a village just outside Birmingham, England.
Best wishes, and give my regards to Ludwig.
