4. Zemlinsky: Symphonien No 1 & 2 (James Conlon)

You should be happy with this one!

Thanks, guys, it's good to know I have something to look forward to.  I only have a couple of those EMI comps of Zemlinsky's music (all Conlon for the orchestral music, and a disc of piano), but I really like what I've heard; I'll probably be getting his string quartets before long.

GMG is still my pusher:

Shost #5 by Lenny in Japan (Sony) - I see one more cheap copy left at Amazon US-MP before prices go up a bit

[asin]B0000041LC[/asin]
Schubert Goethe-lieder by Goerne-Haefliger (London)

[asin]B0000037GM[/asin]
Schmidt string quartets by Schubert Quartett (Nimbus)

My favorite Shostakovich 5th performance. Blows Lenny's early 1959 performance away IMHO.

You know there's a CDR there?

Thanks for the warning, but if you mean the Schmidt, it's used ('Like new') and I checked with the vendor in advance.  If you mean the Goerne, I got a new copy from a dealer other than Arkiv, who sell an ArkivCD of the item.  Fingers crossed!  At least this time I took precautions.

I occassionally get CDRs. It really isn't a big deal if you rip a lossless version. If something happens to the original, you still have the CD quality version. If you don't do that or don't want/plan to, then I would avoid them.

Found a Kats-Chernin CD in my mailbox this afternoon (must have arrived yesterday--today being a holiday with no mail delivery). While looking for and ordering Kats-Chernin CDs earlier this week, I noticed this one that I believe no one here has mentioned. I liked the samples I heard at JPC and ordered a new copy through an Amazon seller (it wasn't in stock at JPC). The music consists of 19 short (and "generally restrained") piano pieces, played by the composer. Slow Food has nothing to do directly with the music; it's just a whimsical title the producer picked for the CD. I love the cover photo. The recipe is included in the booklet  8)

Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Broke down and bought the new Villa-Lobos Naxos recording (I couldn't resist) for $5:

Here's my April MusicWeb assignment (click for full size version):

Most of these I requested, but I think Hopkinson Smith's Bach just sort of showed up unannounced.

Benjamin Moser's piano recital includes:
- Debussy: La plus que lente, Estampes, Children's Corner
- Ravel: Jeux d'eau, Gaspard de la Nuit

The Stockholm Chamber Brass album includes dances and other works by:
- de la Torre
- Susato
- Gesualdo
- Dowland
- Monteverdi

"Zia," with the Del Sol String Quartet, includes:
- Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout by Gabriela Lena Frank
- String Quartet Set by Lou Harrison
- Spanish Garland by Jose Evangelista
- Nayshaboorak by Reza Vali
- Fast Blue Village 2 by GMG Composer of the Week Elena Kats-Chernin

By the way, MusicWeb is looking for more reviewers because we get sent 350ish CDs per month, so if you'd like bundles like this in your mailbox, love writing (to get a feel for our authors' varied styles check out some reviews - but I've learned it's better to be yourself), and don't mind being paid in CDs only, shoot me a PM. Europeans especially welcome. :)

For some reason, that Carmignola CD cover reminds me of this:

Yes, I do hope they are.  I read your post on the Honneger a few days ago.  I had just won these on eBay roughly the same time.

They are due for delivery tomorrow morning...I've been tracking the courier for 3 days now impatiently  ;)

Ha! No problem, DD. Many people here think of me as the Koechlin man, but my Delius avatar is going to be my permanent avatar now. I'll never change it again as long as I'm on GMG. I'm going to become known as the "Delius pest." ;) :D

When happened this change? I think it's important to know for the record.  $:)

A pity you broke down :) I found your restraint remarkable. How did you feel, was ist just controlling desire, or was there also another feeling, something like freedom and lightness?

Anyone that knows me on GMG knows I can't leave the same avatar up for long nor could I possible restrain myself enough to not purchase anything. This sudden change I attribute to my adult ADD. :)

I have actually bought more than this VL in the last few days, Sadko. It feels good to be buying some recordings again. I just wanted to see how long I lasted. Two months is pretty good for me.
