All this talk of Hindemith (and me running across a good deal) finally got me to pull the trigger on something that has languished in my cart for ages...

[asin]B0040UEHW8[/asin]
Hindemith: MATHIS DER MAHLER MALER (Kubelik - EMI, 3cd)

I bought a chunk of Hindemith just last year and did not regret any of it (almost all CPO gear); embarrassed to say I still have not listened to my Glenn Gould box set of Hindemith which I purchased maybe a few months back.  In fact, my backlog of unheard gear is L.A.R.G.E.

Dvorak piano trios by Suk & Co.
(There is a second product page at Amazon US for apparently the same item; the prices are sometimes different.)

[asin]B001CC7HL0[/asin]
Prokofiev NEVSKY, Franck SYMPH, Ravel FANFARE by Stoki, hat-tip Neal, who has written about this NEVSKY a few times on the forum.
AS already discussed, that Dvorak is great.

But the Prokofiev is intense. I hope you'll let us know what you think.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Will do, Bill. The price was certainly right (they retail for $150 and seen them as high as $179). It will take me some time to give burn them in I'm sure, but that's with any headphones.

I have the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. Not sure about the S on the end. But I absolutely love 'em. Superb for classical music - can't say as I look forward to the day when I have to get a new pair. But that'll be a while... they're a year and a half old, or something like that.

The 'S' on the end indicates that the cord is straight and not a coiled cord. I got the pair with the straight cord because I never have liked coiled cords. Anyway, I read they were great for classical music and this was really one of the strong selling points for me. I'd like to get the Sennheiser 598, but I just can't justify bringing myself to spend over $200 for a pair of headphones, but that's just me.

Nice, so you like these pretty good? I wonder what the frequency response is a pair like these? I've heard noise-cancelling headphones have a poor soundstage, is this true?

One thing to always look at, Greg, is the frequency response and the impedance.

Ok. Give me an example of good frequency response and impedance.

I'll have let 71 dB answer this question. I've got to go to work....
