Hello!

Let me introduce you a "Guess the composer" game CQuiz, created by me:
http://composerquiz.sourceforge.net

You need to register first (large blue link on the first page).

You can play in one of the common modes (Easy, Normal, Hard, Insane) or choose any composers that you want for the quiz. For example, you can choose only Bach and Handel and try to guess. After each of your questions system will show you correct answer and information about the piece, that was played.

Easy mode includes 15 greatest composers, Normal mode adds 35 known composers and so on. You can change your mode from the Preferences tab.

Ratings makes competition interesting.

NOW ISLANDS MODE IS ADDED! COMPETE WITH OTHER PLAYERS TO CAPTURE THE ISLANDS OF COMPOSERS! Discuss how to differentiate between composers in the forum for each island!

Please feel free to report any bugs or problems!

Best regards,
Alch.

Cool game, very addictive!

QuoteYou selected: Cage, John [1912-1992] USA (Contemporary)
Incorrect. 407 years difference. Wrong period.
Right answer: Tallis, Thomas [ca. 1505-1585] ENG (Renaissance) - Track name: (01) [Hilliard Ensemble] The Lamentations Of Jeremiah - Incipit Lamentatio.mp3

That static noise really threw me...

If you hear some noise in the track, please report the broken track (with the red link in the right bottom corner).

This is too funny.  :D

That was weird to see the WOT trust warning for the site, but strangled.net is a site that lets people use their own domains, so I guess just don't visit the other domains of the site.

Really liking this quiz...

Hahaha I just got an email asking how I'm doing so well at the quiz. It reminds me of the time when we played "Mystery Violin Concerto" and I guessed Tchaikovsky's from a clip lasting 0.5 seconds.

Gotta admit, pressing "Chopin" before the first chord was over was completely stupid - even if it was right...

EDIT: FYI, I switched to "All Composers" mode between question 37 and question 38.

After switching to "All Composers" mode, I've gotten maybe 10% right. This is a loooooooooooot harder than just guessing!

Interesting but rather too easy. In the Insane level I scored 85% after some 200 questions. If one can't tell Perotin from Schoenberg... then... we've got a problem here pal... 8)

Hello! For experienced players there is possibility to increase difficulty and go much further by selecting checkbox "Show all composers" in Preferences. Also, this gives much higher rating!

Thank you Greg! :)

Hi! I added photos to all composers.
Now when choosing composer you can train your visual memory too.

This is very pleasant for idle moments- I just started playing: I got the Khatachurian VC correct but took Bernstein's Facsimile for something by Barber...

Then chose Shchedrin instead of Schnittke, and Glass instead of Nyman...

Fun quiz, thanks!!

And super addicting. Just went through over 30 on the insane level. My lack of Romantic era composers got the best of me, but I'm pleased with my stats.

Sean

Very impressive GS, you sound like a serious listener who knows their stuff. I'll look out for your posts...

I don't care for the historical periods on the quiz- the cut-offs are arbitrary.

Sean

Hey, Gibbons on piano??

And slow movements are always harder...

Well done to the creator alch though, not a bad effort at all, must have taken a great deal of effort and thought.

No points for the correct work? It's just a wider idiom-identification test?

Carnivorous Sheep

Cool site, thanks for setting this up.

Hi all!
Now islands mode is added! Compete with other players to capture the islands of composers.

Hi! I have added some thorough graphs, they are accessible by clicking on the rating or on the level in stats:

Hi all!

50 new composers and new tracks added to the game!

alch

Hi! I added tracks for Xenakis and Stockhausen.
