Discs on my wish list - I'm jealous! ;D

Just in on my side:

I'm aware this has just been reissued (below), but quite often that brings down the price of copies of the original issue and I take advantage of that to get the full liner notes. :D

This copy does't seem used, but has just been lying in storage forever with a scratched case - which is fixed in 5 seconds.

That Zelenka disc is amazing.

The Gilles disc is on its way; I ordered it based on a good amazon review, the reviewer seemed to know his business, I checked a lot of his other reviews.

PS It seems I may need that Demantius disc in one or the other version.

That CD is the only 5-star review I awarded in 50+ movie, music, theatre, and book reviews for my college paper. I was a harsh critic.

The new erato

Alfred Schnittke as a Scandinavian Classic, that's a new one......

Yeah, I thought it was kind of strange too, but nonetheless I sampled some of this recording via Spotify and it's absolutely gorgeous. You can't judge a book by it's cover. :)

One of the best Schnittke discs out there, the choir's performances are incredibly detailed. And I love hearing the Choir Concerto with a chamber ensemble.

Have you bought any more Schnittke recordings lately, Greg? I'm really anxious to hear another performance of the Requiem, although the one on BIS with Stefan Parkman is exquisite.

For Requiem I have these... Both very good.

I obviously have that Scandinavian Classics recording on the way. I'll have to checkout the Polyansky recording, although I'm in no dire need to acquire yet another performance of the Concerto for Piano & Strings. I've also read some disparaging things about that particular performance anyway. I know you have the Strobel recording of PCs, which is out of print now! Grrr.... but I do highly enjoy this one with Postnikova/Rozhdestvensky:

Arrived this morning: Symphonies by László Lajtha, recommended by kyjo; Cello Concertos by William Schuman and Samuel Barber; and a Barber/Schuman disc conducted by Bernstein, bought primarily for the two Schuman items.

I'd be curious to hear those, myself, as I have heard a string quartet or two of his, very impressive music.

When the name was first mentioned, I had to look it up and found the symphonies on youtube. You might try them there to see if you are sympathetic to them.

I especially enjoyed the two Schuman works on that Bernstein recording. To The Old Cause is an elegiac work that's quite nice. In Praise of Shahn is typical Schuman fare with blazing brass and gritty counterpoint. A very cool work as well.

Bought the recordings from Gardner's Lutoslawski series I was missing:

Now, I'm going to take a break from purchasing for awhile at least until the Henze DG box set comes later this month. :)
