Artem

Hello,

I've been browsing this forum for several months and decided to finally register. I'm interested in classical music and I hope to learn more about it through this great place. I enjoy discovering modern composers and try to have an understaning of the past periods too.

Hi Artem, and welcome to GMG. What part of the world are you in, and what has caught your ear lately?

A warm welcome from me, Artem. :) Who are some of your favorite composers?

Thank you for the welcoming words.

I'm from Kazakhstan, but presently live in Canada.

Some of my favourite composers are Mahler, Feldman, Schubert. Recenlty I've been listening Morton Feldman's Violin and Orchestra cd released on ECM this year, which I quite like.

Cool! You may very well be the first Kazakh person I have met! Thanks for telling us your favorite composers. :) I love Mahler and like Schubert, but I'm not too keen on Feldman.

Don't want to dissapoint, but I'm actually Russian. :) You probably know that there're many Russians in Kazakhstan.

No, I'm not disappointed. :) The fact that you lived in Kazakhstan is still pretty neat! BTW feel free to join the discussions in other boards here!

Just last year I heard the Feldman for the first time - great piece, might be one of his best, which is saying something.

Welcome Artem, I share passions for the composers you mention: I am a Feldmaniac 100%
I love that VIOLIN AND ORCHESTRA piece, it's a marvel.  I don't yet know the new ECM one you have, but I got Isabelle Faust's (Col Legno) just within the past year or so, and I loved it so much I had to hide from myself.  I see Carolin Widmann plays on the ECM, so I might have to get that one too.
Incidentally, GMG has a member whose independent record label released a very nice live Feldman recording (by some of the colleagues and originators of the piece iirc), which you might know:
