Let us know your thoughts, Karl!  I am awaiting the physical CD, which I have on pre-order, to be released October 29th.  To October!

Yours too! We could probably spend hours creating combinations of Brahms top 3 chamber works.  ;D

Yes, and on a daily basis.  Always loved the 1st string quartet, and the fantastic coda to the first movement.

HAHA! A Fafner sighting!

Yes, I heard some dumbwit hollering outside, so I woke up and crawled out of my cave.

Second that. :)

Cheers, gents!

Here I'll pause after the first movement to say: I love the detail; the sound is great; there are four or five spots where Vasya does something a little different than I have generally heard elsewhere (a somewhat more deliberate tempo for a bassoon solo, e.g.) but in all cases I find that the musical narrative not only holds together, but is well served.

If the remainder of the symphony holds to this level, this recording will be A Contender.

What do you think of the 4th movement, Ray? I think it is quite successful-a grand, satisfying conclusion. :)

I was impressed (on first listen).  The very opening of the 4th movement, I was thinking....this doesn't sound like Bruckner....but soon into it, my thoughts were....this is very much Bruckner!  :)

It's official: Although I have not followed his cycle entirely, this disc impresses me as the finest of Vasya's efforts which I have yet to hear.

Nice Karl!  Speaking of DSCH I'm contemplating spending points on my credit card to acquire Haitink's cycle since his 8th is so awesome.

Haitink's cycle is the best out there IMO. You won't regret it, David.

Excellent!
It's an interesting piece for sure, being constructed by others from sketches of the VC & From the House of the Dead (which of course share much).

Aye, it was Haitink who introduced me to the Eighth; truly a dynamite performance.
