Her sketch in Coffee and Cigarettes is great, BTW!
Agreed, that was a very impressive performance.

de la Iglesia fan?

Actually, I recorded El Día de la Bestia from TV something like 7 years ago but never had time to watch it. But clearly you haven't seen Possession (or have you?) - it isn't even remotely like a horror movie (except for the bit of gore and some sex with monsters ;D ;D ;D). I think it's Zulawski's very best achievement (I've seen almost all of his features). Adjani's acting here is mind-boggling. The film itself, like everything else Zulawski has ever done, is extreme, over-the-top, hysterical, tasteless, nerve-wracking melodrama. Adjani is probably the only actress who could fully realize Zulawski's extreme concepts about art. And although I feel a bit unsure about many of his ideas in other movies I deeply admire his artistic integrity - I think there's no other film director (I can't think of one) whose personality would leave such a strong stamp on his works.

Enough of that rant. ::)

At least! ;D

Here's one more shot and one more hint: visible in this photo is the element the movie (and the book) takes its title from:

And here's the dialogue that comes almost immediately after this shot:

LOL, I actually wasn't referring to Possession at all but doesn't matter, occasional rants are good for you. My ridiculously cryptic quip was relating of your spelling in quoted bit with title of one de la Iglesia film (Crimen ferpecto). Yeah, I'm that insane ::)

btw, I've seen Possession but it was quite awhile, wouldn't mind seeing it again. Zulawski's very best achievement imo is marrying Marceau (or not, technically).
Do watch El Dia de la Bestia, it's not much of a horror either, I found it hilarious.

LOL, you do have something there! ;D

I guess she likes Slavic types...

I've had Zulawski's The Third Part of the Night on my rental list for some time. I should see it some time in September. Unfortunately Possession isn't available to rent in the UK.

Is she the actress who starred in Anna Karenina? She reminded me of my first real love, just a little less lively and with darker hair and without a pack of cigarettes ever at hand. When we got drunk she had this way of involuntarily making her lips move in different directions from how the speech came out, almost like when you get an out-of-sync clip of someone speaking on TV and the lips move before the sound comes out (and no, it wasn't a problem with my vision). For such an attractive girl she could do one mean keg stand which left most of us in the dust!

Any film which has Małgorzata Braunek as one of the main characters is worth watching.

Of course, the real stars of that one are the lice... ;D

Here's a final shot from my no. 5, and a final hint:

(The author of the novel is Henry James.)

Lilas Pastia

Well, that's Maggie Smith there, so the movie should be Washington Square.

Another short round, again with a connecting theme  between these 4 movies. I daresay I find it easy, but then again, I've been at sea with 95% of the last rounds, so there :P:

Drasko

#451
Andre, I've PM'd you the answers for 1-3, not to spoil fun for everyone else  ;D

No.4 Could that be Sarita Montiel, La Violetera (?)

edit: haven't noticed at first that numbers are not sorted top to bottom, so actually pm'd you Nos. 4, 1 and 3 and Montiel guess is for No.2

Maciek

1 Tess

3 The Age of Innocence

Correct! :D

Tess and The Age of Innocence are correct answers. Maciek and Drasko found them, and shot # 4 was also found by Drasko. Hint for # 4: both actors were nominated for an Academy Award for their role in that movie.

The connecting theme between them (apart from showing off some spectacular beauties :D) is that they are filmed adaptations of classic english or american novels.

Maciek

Oh, I feel cheated. Are there 2 ways to submit answers now? :-X

Anyway, I'm pretty certain I've seen no. 4 but my mind is a blank...

Maciek

A Place in the Sun?

Lilas Pastia

#457
Yes it is!

Adapted from Theodore Dreiser's An American Tragedy

Tess is of course taken from Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles

The Age of Innocence is from the eponymous novel by Edith Wharton

And no, it's not Sarita Montiel in that picture (who is she anyway? Milos, you have too much erudition!)

When I'm home tonight I'll post another pic of that film (pic # 4). Hint: this magnificent lady's name is the same as a famous shakeaperean character. I'm not saying from which play, it would be a dead giveaway!

Speaking of magnificent ladies, A Place In The Sun starred Elizabeth Taylor. She's never been so radiantly beautiful. that's not her in the pic chosen, though. We're seeing Montgomery clift and Shelley Winters.

Isn't that Merle Oberon?

So I'm guessing that's Wuthering Heights.

Im bunten Erdentraum
Ein leiser Ton gezogen
Für den der heimlich lauschet.
