My dream is to become a good teacher.  And I also want to keep losing weight until I'm the same weight as before I started college, but I'm just dreaming. ;D

Are you going to be, to borrow an American phrase, an educator? At high school (to borrow another American phrase)?

I seriously doubt if that is something to wish for.... :-\

Q

Why, exactly? ???

Well, you assume that consciousness beyond death is a pleasurable experience.
But why? Just to elaborate on that: when you're dead, you lived your life - what would be there to experience?  0:)

I made no such assumption.

I don't know. That's what I'm curious to discover. ;D

Pretty much, I work for an honors school for high school students to take Physics (and other science and math classes) at the college level.

What about you Michel?  I know that you had been in the state of being a recent graduate a year or two ago, what happened after that?

A 90mph car crash, the death of my dog, the beginning of a long-term relationship, a bout of fairly serious depression where I need medical help, I moved to London, then I moved back home, I worked for a marketing company, then I considered every career under the sun, then I wanted to give up my job and do something else.

And now, I've decided on what to do, which is to train as a lawyer. I have a job with a firm in London and they pay my fees and living costs as now I go off to law school..... which starts on the 17th September. Between now and then I have a nice holiday on the Lycean coast to go to. :)

I had a roller coaster experience with depression as well, but honestly the magnitude of that sounds signficantly less than your hardship Michel. :(

But you found some happiness and purpose, and having it hard earned makes it feel more valuable. :)

To become the best musician I can be. Also to perform all the full WTC and Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues over three nights. (Four if I ever get around to writing my own set of preludes and fugues. Edit: and five if I can ever learn Joe Grucock's completion of The Art of The Fugue)

I take Zoloft for that.   ;D

Just curious, does that make you happy?  or just not sad, depressed? by the way these two are not the same.

I'm partly joking.  But in truth, many people (myself included) have a chemical imbalance in the brain which a mild daily dose of Zoloft can correct.  Zoloft is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.  Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Like most SSRIs, they don't work for everyone, and finding the right one for me took a few months, but ever since I've been on it (about three years ago on the suggestion of my doctor) all of my obsessive "mental demons" have long since vanished.  Can I still get sad?  Yes of course, but I no longer break into tears for no reason whatsoever.

I appreciate the honest response.  I never really understood how these "medicines" or "prescription drugs" worked untill you explained them.  I guess eternal happiness remains a myth or in this case...... a dream.
