I prefer cats, but I love dogs too.

Octave

I voted for cats, but I also really like small, cat-like dogs.  The two animals taste more or less the same.

For lunch? I'll have mine lightly killed, then sauteed....   >:D

My cat dislikes Richard Strauss.*

Before I got married, I was a dog person. But, my wife had two cats (the boy didn't like me after I moved in and starting peeing all over my belongings and then just randomly all over the house, so we put him up for adoption.), and I soon realized they are pretty cool, too. About a year after we got married, we adopted a tiny kitten, and she's been "Daddy's little girl" ever since! Sure, they are affectionate on their own terms, rather than unconditionally loving like a dog, but they are also much more independent--and don't have to be walked in the rain! Here's Athena the night we brought her home:

By the way, I play classical guitar--hence the long thumbnail!

Wonderful picture. Cats are independent, but when they like you, they never leave you in doubt about it.

If you enjoy watching kittens play, then this live stream is for you! (Warning: More often than not, they are asleep!)  :)

Nice, but when it comes down to it, it's a cat. Here's my dog on her first day home;

Splendid animal! Also, I've never walked her in the rain. Just sayin'.....   0:)

Doxie family here ...

Unfortunately, since I posted this picture back in 09, I lost all three of my boys and girls in the space of 7 months from cancer and acute pancreatitis.     :'(

Sorry to hear that! I also lost 3 Scotties in 2004 in a 6 month period, but only 1 was cancer, the other 2 were old age. I can truly empathize with you, amigo!   :'(

Do you have some in your sights now?  My chihuahua was an 'only dog' for about a year (he loved it!) before the terriers started flooding in. Now I feel more normal (and a lot happier) with a Cairn, a Welsh and 2 Scotties. Paco isn't quite so sure....   :D

I spent almost $40K to help Daisy-Mae (the long-haired English Cream who lost the battle only 2 months short of 14) to fight her cancer in the urethra - implantation of 2 stents, chemo therapy, cancer meds and infection fighting injections.  The oldest one (black and tan) died from brain tumor - had to be put down as he was suffering too much - he was 14.  Newton, only 10 1/2, died from acute pancreatitis, which was very unexpected.

We now have two female dachshunds, the second generation: a 6-year old Doxie mix and a standard, long-haired, whose grandfather was a Westminster Grand Champion.  The last three years have been terrible, as I also lost both my parents.

I could say the same thing about your dog--no need to dismiss someone's preference.

Nothing personal against your particular cat, but I gave up on cats in general years ago. If one can't say that one prefers dogs and actively dislikes cats, then what's the point of having this thread? So I disagree, there IS a need to dismiss your preferences in favor of my own.

We just lost one of our three basset hounds (we also have a dachshund in tow).  So, this made us laugh again and hit close to home.

I like cats, but nothing besides a dog will cry out in pain because they are so happy that you come back home after being gone for only 6 hours... every day.

I am bipetual, liking dogs and cats equally.

That's so true and reason enough to say why I prefer dogs over cats. Unconditional love. Like, for example, I could step outside of the house and come back in ten minutes later and my dog acts like she hasn't seen me in three months. She's just so excited.  :)
