Last day of the Ricercar sales at discplus ... gave in, and quite so:

Fantastic haul! I am sure your credit card bill will luminesce when it arrives considering the cost.  ???
I have been considering a few of the Ricercar issues (lately the Reformation as well as the Instrument sets). Let us know how these sound when you get to them?   :)

I'm paying by bill ... they offer that for customers within Switzerland, which is pretty nice! Weirdly, btw, the second instruments set wasn't part of the Ricercar special offer, prob. due to some database error (it's listed separately, the label says "Ricercar [something]"). Actually I'm glad it was that one that was out of stock, I'm more interested in the three that I will get! Those three have me most excited!

They were so mean as to list the new German sacred box set (mentioned in the Early Music Thread I think) all the time at their nice 50% discount price, but they don't have it yet and the good price is gone now - but then two of my order became available while I was waiting to order (the Zamponi and Gesualdo), so I'm not complaining all that loudly  ;)

Wow, that is a nice looking haul there king ubu!   :)

Nice selection overall.  8)

I have the Lejeune/Renaissance box and have found it to be quite good.  On its own, this set works well just to be able to play the music, but it also offers a very attractive - and tempting! - gateway into the myriad styles of music from this era.  A "springboard" of sorts.  The book is very nice, though the binding could perhaps be better (wish it was sewn).

Looking forward to your reports as you listen to these, but am particularly interested in your thoughts on the ODHECATON/Gesualdo disc; that one looks super!

I am slow these days, but I'll definitely give that one a spin soon! Did you get this one?

Found it pretty amazing, but only gave it three or four spins so far.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I do not have this one, but have noticed it; I'll add it to the wish list. . .   ;)

My favorite Gesualdo recording is this one, led by Alan Curtis:

I like that cover! Not just because it reminds me of Tempest. But it seems more appropriate for Glass than Gesualdo.

Anyway, I googled the original cover, which launched a long stream of clicks that culminated in the purchase of Mengelberg's Mahler 4.

The Currentzis Shostakovich 14 is a searing success. So is their Mozart Requiem if you haven't found out yet !

I am hurtling that direction.  Mandryka or someone else posted a YT clip with a late portion of that REQUIEM recording and it was unusual and interesting.  I will also probably cave and get his NOZZE, if for not other reason than to have a good HIP recording in Blu audio.

Thanks Andre for the Casals/Prades info.

As a complement to my Parisian purchases this weekend, got these two albums during a short stop in Berlin yesterday:

[asin]B00HV3W4OO[/asin]

[asin]B000CEVU6M[/asin]

The Eötvös includes his Sonata per sei, which made an excellent impression on me in concert here in Madrid a couple of months ago.

As for the Enescu, I really love this opera, and wanted another recording to complement the classic van Dam / Foster on EMI that I've owned for years...ç

These albums were bought at Dussmann...Their wonderful basement classical section has now moved to the second floor. It's still very good, but as is ususally the case with these moves, the department has shrunk a bit in the process  :(
