How's it sounding/working?

Sound is good. Music from Itunes is only be put on with Philips software, and it goes very slowly.

When you have little money I recommend the Philips (8 GB).

Because I was not satisfied by the Philips, I bought also a Sony NWZ E585. This is a very nice mp3 player. 16 GB, music can be uploaded via the Explorer, also Itunes. It shows cover art of all albums, also Itunes. Very good sound, nice interface. Highly recommended!

Henk,
No, it is not so. There is switch in setup that lets you change around how the machine works. If you move it to the other position, it will create a drive letter when you plug it in to USB, and you can do all your file connecting via Windows Explorer. I know, I have been doing this for over 2 years now. Works just fine.  :)

     I'm on my 2nd Pod, it's still running fine. What I don't like is it's so small.

Well, after 3 years of 2 hours/day use, the battery on my Philips Vibe has gotten to where a full charge only lasts a couple of days. So after shopping around a lot and weighing the various cost/benefit ratios, I took Henk's advice and bought this, supposed to deliver today:

I don't do a lot of fancy shit on my mp3 player. I play mp3's. It doesn't play flacs, but my current one does and I never used that capability even though everything I have in mp3 I also have in flac. I couldn't see any value in getting a bunch of features I don't use. The 16 gigs is nice though, and the reputedly excellent SQ, which all the reviews mentioned. So we'll see and run some feedback through by the weekend. :)

I used to have that Sony player (or one just like it). It was fine until it accidentally went through the wash!  It is a good player but overpriced compared to Sandisk.

Don't you have a smartphone Gurn?  I thought you picked up a windows phone.  Makes the MP3 player obsolete.

Yup, I have a Nokia Lumia 920. You know me, David. That's a freakin' phone, this is a music player. :D  I also have a nice digital camera. And a digital voice recorder.   ;)

Yeah, I gotta believe this won't take too many washings. Probably the bleach.... I had a Sandisk. Liked it. It died without even being washed!   :o   This is a heavy use item for me, but I have no sentimentality about it; I use it up and throw it away.  >:D

Just get an iPod Classic, Touch, or Nano (if you're not going to upload much music) and be done with it. I've had zero problems with any of my iPods and they sound fantastic that is if you use a high bit rate to transfer your music. The only thing I don't like about the iPod is their lack of any kind of customizable EQs. The EQ presets they do have sound atrocious, so I just turned the EQ off.

iPod = iTunes

Say no more.

Also if all you want to do is listen to music, an iPod is too much.  They are more expensive because they're not just mp3 players.  Well the crappy shuffle is.  The nano doubles as a watch, and the touch is a smart phone without the phone.
