the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Ha! Bet you weren't expecting that!

Well, I was wondering...and suspecting that it almost had to be a variation on a theme!  ;D

I heard the Symphony 0 last spring in a Toledo Symphony concert (Stefan Sanderling conducting) at the Catholic cathedral, and they made a great case for raising the stature of this work.
"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

Out of these symphonies, Symphony No. 1 gets my vote here.

Die Nullte is a worthy work, but in the long run I have to go with #1 for its massive finale. 8)
Imagination + discipline = creativity

Wanderer

Like them all, love Nos.1 & 2, voted for No.1.

...and its awesome opening.

Brahmsian

#1 for me!  A saucy little number.  :D

One of these days Brian is going to create a tough poll. Not today. #1.

springrite

#2.

It's one of my favourites regardless!

I guess "the rest of your life" is very very short then... :P

Hey! We got rules here, Bub: Every poll has to have a banana!

Got to teach ole Anton the art of defending yourself when attacked by someone armed with a BANANA!

André

Go with the flow. # 1 it is, for its wonderful first, third and last movements. # 2 for its massively beautiful slow movement. Then # 0 for its compactness and sheer fun (that scherzo !)

TheGSMoeller

No.2
And that goes for any edition. The Adagio alone is worth the vote.

After listening to Haitink conducting the Concertgebouw in the Nullte, I need to change my vote.
Not only is it the best of this lot of symphonies, it may be among the best of Bruckner's symohonies.
