Grief because they didn't record more Haydn.
:'( :'( :'( :'(
Hmm, they seem to have recorded some of Mozart's quartets....

Odd, given their name.

One of my favored "Titans" even though the sound is a bit dated. The performance is exhilarating! Love it!!!!!    8) :P

Hyvää iltaa, Karlo! I'm familiar with the orchestral and choral works (and have serious reservations concerning Ein deutsches Requiem  >:( ), less so with the chamber and solo compositions.

There is the one or the other thing I can enjoy (the opening of the First symphony, some parts of Liebesliederwalzer--Ein kleiner, hübscher Vogel nahm den Flug  :) ), but other pieces are really unbearable to me. For instance, the First piano concerto (with all its--empty, IMHO--bombast) was a torture for me when I saw it live in Hamburg a couple of years ago with no less than Radu Lupu and the Bamberg Symphony under Nott).

It's odd: I think Brahms has almost everything I expect from a major composer, and yet I can't stand his music. Is it inspiration (as I see it) that is missing?  ::)
Buenas noches, Rafael!
Oh dear. I would suggest perhaps giving the chamber works (e.g. the Piano Quintet, the Horn Trio, the clarinet sonatas) and the solo piano pieces a closer look.
I don't think it's really a lack of inspiration that you feel, but Brahms was rather insecure and honed his compositions so much that there might not be much spontaneity left. This might have had more effect in the more public orchestral/choral works.

I like it a lot. Reminds me of Atmospheres in a way, but less aggressive (for lack of a better word) and obviously more tonal.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

The word you want, the encomium you seek, is minimalist.

I bought this after reading some comments Mandryka made about it that sounded very interesting. It turns out I misunderstood what he said to some degree (apparently he wasn't actually recommending the set or Hantai), although (fortunately) it really is very interesting.
It's all good...
