Started the day with some Kenny Dorham ... then followed with:

disc 1 - Baldassar Castiglione: Il libro del cortegiano (Venezia 1528)

and then on with Schumann:

Impressive! So, finally, today is the day Schumann's symphonies click with me, I guess .... continuing with Furtwängler now, disc 51 of his big coffin, No. 1 with Vienna Phil (1951) and No. 4 with Berlin Phil (1953).

Sibelius:
Kung Kristian II  Op 27         /Laukka
Kuolema JS 113                    /Laukka/Tiihonnen
Svanevit JS 189                    /Tepponen/Pietiläinen

Lahti SO/Vänskä

Time to listen to this box for the second time this year.   ;)  Great music! I get stuck on Svanevit every time I listen to this recording. Sublime!

Certainly, Peter! Coincidently, I was just listening to King Kristian II last night. Now I'm listening to Kuolema. One of my favorite things to do is skip around between the various Sibelius Edition sets. One minute I'm listening to Pelleas and Melisande, then the next minute I'm listening to Symphony No. 3. 8) Not that it matters if I do this as Sibelius' oeuvre is quite consistent and of high quality.

Ensemble Risognanze play Niccolò Castigliani's Quilisma and Risognanze. First time I've heard anything by this composer, this is cool music, no doubt about it. Earlier I heard a bit of piano music played by Idil Biret which impressed me less, sort of sub-George Flynn.

That was the recording that made me a fan of Schubert's Octet! The VKQ sounds great! How did you like it?

After I posted I noticed your entries on Svanevit in the Sibelius thread. They are definitely great boxes, but truth to be told I have neglected the symphonies lately!  :-[      Too much great music to explore!   0:)
