As for people angry about the presence of downloads in this thread, they can simply scroll on.

I agree with this.
There isn't really a need to maintain a separate thread for downloads - all bargains regardless of format should be listed here.

I'd also prefer that downloads, bargains or otherwise, be left out of this thread. For the sake of clarity and convenience (perhaps start another sticky thread so that it's more visible) I think a new dedicated downloads thread is the way to go, so that everyone will be happy. I also have the distinct, if vague, impression that this particular discussion has already been made and that the consensus was that this was a physical recordings thread.
As far as I'm concerned, the original poster back in 2007 clearly meant it for physical recording bargains, so those who provide as evidence that "it's not in the title" strike me as disingenuous. Trying to hijack threads is not cool.

Think calling it a thread hijack is a bit dramatic
I don't think it was clear this was intended as a physical recording thread.
Having a dedicated thread for downloads is a waste of forum resources and why should people who also like downloads (as well as CD's and other physical formats) be marginalised into a thread with receives little or no traffic just to not upset a few old farts.
More people on this forum download than you would care to think - we are defintely not a small minority.
Really downloading is old hat these days too - shouldn't us stick in the mud "must own the music" types be sticking together? ;)

Inspired by the sterling work done by AnthonyAthletic, Peregrine and other members of this forum to bring to our attention the many incredibly cheap bargains they tirelessly hunt down on Amazon, eBay and elsewhere, I think it might be a good idea to have this thread for the posting of such goodies.

Any objections? Thought not. ;D

(PS: A Mod may decide to put this in the 'Buy, Swap & Sell' part of the forum, but personally, I think it'll just get forgotten about there ... and we don't want that, now do we? ;))

Heres the original post: it says Amazon, eBay and elsewhere - that sounds pretty all inclusive to me.

I think it's perfectly clear that it was.

Really? That's your pitch?

A dedicated thread is much more convenient, imo. You know, if the server can handle the extra traffic.  ;)

A non-issue with an obvious solution: (an extra) sticky thread.

I download, too, but that's irrelevant.

All inclusive as regards to physical recordings.

Always.  ;)

It does not make so much sense to include ebay and amazon third party sellers because those bargains will usually only be for the first to take advantage of them.
Obviously this does not apply to downloads and I think it is reasonable to include them in this thread here. I usally do not care for them (they'd have to be really cheap) and the bargains are usually restricted to people with a US address anyway, so it's just an evil tease for me if the 3.99 US bargain costs EUR 29.99 at .de.

Im not going to attempt to respond to your slicing and dicing up my post and taking everything out of context - that's quite a lame trick by the way.
I don't see why we should have 2 threads for what amounts to the same mission - keeping up with all the bargains that are out there.
Why do you need a dedicated thread just for CD's? - that's a minority interest and its pretty much just the older members who are too scared to download anything want to dictate to the rest of us who use multiple formats where we should have an appropriate conversation.
Is it really polluting the bargain thread having a few posts about downloads? - I think some of you guys need to grow up a bit. Why are you being selfish - cant we share the thread?
You know a lot of us here are short on free time and cant really follow as many threads as wed like - Having all the bargains in one thread is a lot more convenient and easy to follow.

I don't care what the format is -- the Mendelssohn string symphonies are minor masterpieces of youth.

I should start posting deals on scores just to really piss people off  .
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

But it's a non CD compatible SACD with 4 hours playing time so it needs a true SACD player and probably only plays in 2 channels (for those with a multi Channel SACD outfit).

Oops, thanks for the warning, saw it at the last minute but could still cancel the order ... so the only way to get this would be the old Brilliant box that goes for rather exalted prices?

A bargain is a bargain is a bargain. If you've no interest in download bargains, just skip 'em. ;)

So downloads OFFICIALLY belong here!!! 'Nuff said!! :D

Speaking as one who would personally prefer to have just CDs here, I suggest we take this answer as definitive, and include download bargains. We are cluttering the thread FAR more with this discussion than if we included even scores, cassette tapes, or 8 tracks at the local Salvation Army store.

Nothing was taken out of context and the emoticons communicate the tone well enough. For anything more, and so as not to clutter the thread, don't hesitate to PM me.

That's good enough for me, although I do believe that separate threads are the way to go; more practical, organized and convenient and less convoluted.

Also, he once sent me a box of 8 DVDs containing about 200 different CDs in MP3 form, and was in the process of converting his whole collection to digital/downloads. Mark was a great guy and I'm sad he's no longer active here. He seems to be making a go of life as a published poet.

Thanks for the story and link, Brian! Put a smile right on my face. ----> :)
