Hornblower

Hi everyone, newly registered here but I'm not unfamiliar with the forum. Have lurked it in the past for reference and recommendations  ;D

Anyways, I've always loved classical music, and my brain oftentimes sends me surprises by playing random bits of symphonies and concertos in my head throughout the day. Amongst my favorite composers are the usual suspects - Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Brahms, Dvorak, Beethoven, and so on. My exposure to live concerts are limited, as I've lived large parts of my life in places where there are hardly any orchestras visiting. Anyways, I'll spare you all with a wall of text for the time being and would instead make my presence felt where it matters. Or if you do seek more information, do ask away - I'll be your prisoner.

Thank you all for that suspiciously warm welcome! Horn concertos - Mmmm....I myself am no horn blower (euphemisms and urban dictionary definitions included) but I was seduced by the instrument via Schumann's Konzertstuck - what a great piece! Plus, the videos I've seen makes it look like a terrifyingly difficult piece to play. I love the uses of horns outside classical music too, so speak on.

Are you prepared for full membership via the "Kung Fu" red-hot vat of burning coals routine?   :o

When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."
