Andrei my friend I disagree with you about this set. It is probably one of the worst examples if it comes to Clementi's music. First of all the sound is below par. I seldom heard such a disaster if it comes to sound. Interpretation is not much above amateur level, despite the fact that these are professional performers. I have listen trice to the whole set, and gave up. It should never have been released. They do not deliver, not even as unassuming tuneful works.

;D

Well. I am not even a below amateur-ish violinist / pianist, let alone sound engineer. The very moment I will be able to play "For He´s A Jolly Good Fellow" on the violin, or engineer "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on a home recording microphone I will criticize any playing / recording. Until then, I will keep respecting the work of any professional musician. If you think that Clementi´s piano and violin sonatas were played better in his own times, be my guest --- I don´t.  :D

I did a lot of recording in my time, so I assume I know a thing or two about that. My technical/musical background is enough to know when musicians play good or bad, so apart from the fact if you like an interpretation or not, to my knowledge this release is far from good. I respect professionalism and musicians that strive for perfection, again, this is not the case with this release. I do not know if Clementi's works were badly performed in his time, if yes, that is a shame, for I find these works interesting enough.
So I acknowledge the music as genial enough but deplore this release.
If I can find the email back from Spada which I received after burning down this release I will sent it to you, its quite revealing.

Please do. You made me very curious about the issue.

If I find it, for it's some time ago, I will sent it privately to you.

CD 1 Op 1 Nos. 1 - 4

The publishing of this complete edition of Giuseppe Tartinis Violin Concertos (with the addition of two concertos each for cello and flute) is both a triumph for Dynamic label, which in its 36 years of activity has built a considerable catalogue of violin music and an artistic and historical document of indisputable musicological importance for anyone wishing to have a philologically reliable testimony of this aspect of 18th c. Italian instrumental music, valuable, therefore, for more than the mere dimension of listening. To grasp the importance of this achievement we must first of all note that only a very small number of these concertos can be found in modern, easily available editions, few of which, incidentally, are truly valid from the point of view of textual accuracy and respect of Tartinis musical precepts. This project was started, almost twenty years ago by Dynamics founder Pietro Mosetti Casaretto who, in 1996, recorded and published the first three-CD box-set featuring the Concerti, Op. 1, performed by LArte dellArco, with Giovanni Guglielmo, Federico Guglielmo and Carlo Lazari as soloists, the same soloists who played in the 17th and last volume of the series published in 2013, evidence of this ensembles faithfulness to the project, and of their moral and artistic solidity, indispensable preconditions for any important musical achievement. - Amazon Editorial Review

Agreed. A monumental endeavour for which Guglielmo and L´Arte dell´Arco deserve the eternal gratitude of every Baroque afficionado.

Performances by Luca Guglielmo sounds appealing, but 29 discs is more than a bit daunting!  ???

The Sound and the Fury do Gombert motets. This is quite simply the most rewarding recording of Gombert's motets I know, and I really urge people to hear it even if they have already Beauty Farm and Henry's Eight. Miraculously there are copies on the  orf website (that's how I got mine)

Does anyone have their other two Gombert CDs? Could someone share them with me?

Hi Harry - I have Clementi's Keyboard Sonatas x 2 and his Symphonies, but have not looked into his other chamber works - just perusing Amazon USA and not much available for that genre there - any other recordings available that you know about?  Thanks - Dave :)

No Dave I am sorry, I am not aware of other chamber music recordings by Clementi. But truth said I do not look for them either. I will now!

Some new arrivals today:

Haydn, Joseph - Piano Trios w/ Trio 1790 - Harald Hoeren on fortepiano (after Heilmann, c. 1790, built by Derek Adlam, 1978) - really enjoying the first CD w/ the keyboard and strings well mixed and balanced.

Rheinberger, Josef (1839-1901) w/ Jörg Hansemann in the solo works (first 8 CDs), then Sandra Hanselmann-Kästli added for the Duos on the last 2 discs - SO, a total of 19 CDs have arrived today @ my doorstep - this should take a while since I always like to do at least two listenings before storing - :)  Dave
