Rozhdestvensky's recording of Schnittke's 5th symphony.

I've never seen any evidence of this being released on physical media (I bought it as a $5 lossless download from 7digital), but I'm genuinely impressed. There is some scrappy playing at times and the recording quality isn't the best, but this *is* a thoroughly theatrical work (it's very obviously related to the ballet Peer Gynt) and Rozhdestvensky and his orchestra go hell-for-leather into the climaxes and linger over the more gentle passages in a manner that perfectly suits the music.

Damn! It really would be nice to have a physical recording of it, though.

This is the last Saturday ever that the Norwegian Post is carrying post on Saturdays (the decrease in post has been dramatic, particularly as most Norwegians receive their bills ready to be paid in their internet banks solutions and just need a click to accept them). Saturdays will be less exciting in the future........

I was happy about the singer Pur recordings, the Vaet, Telemann, O, it was classical heaven this morning for me.
But I will add it again, be quick all GMG members, for some titles have already gone.

I ordered both an hour ago, thanks to Harry.

Also ordered this set. A new release on Brilliant, and one I look forward too. Reading about Bach and his music, makes me even more hungry for music before and after.

I got the two Vaet (never having heard the name before but they were recommended both here and elsewhere), two Singer pur (Factor orbis and Gallus), the Telemann violin/flute, Handel's Acis (Haselböck), the Pachelbel organ disc, Schoeck Lieder and the Schumann/Rihm Trios.

And I just added the court of Prague disc because I am fond of lamentationes settings...

Pure madness! This was the third medium-sized order this month, so I should not buy anything until May... not very likely...

Haven't been posting much lately. Here's why...

Local store was about to ship it back. Hadn't sold in over a year. Worked out a great deal with the distributor.

I'm in Concertgebouw heaven. Sampled about 30 discs so far: Willem Mengelberg, Eduard van Beinum, Bernard Haitink and Riccardo Chailly.

Seems its hard to make a bad recording in the Royal Concertgebouw. Visiting the hall in Amsterdam is high on my bucket list.

You lucky man!  I am curious, what was the deal? I have been in this concert hall many times, and it is even better live.

Excellent! Enjoy! I have the last three volumes of the RCO Anthologies and I have yet to even put a dent in exploring any of the performances. From what I've heard, though, has been great.

I have that Pepusch CD, I think:  or a similar one from the same performers (the name is distinctive, of course).  The music is nicely done.
