I mean, $17.98 is a steal for a full selection of hydraulic, pneumatic & plumbing products!

The new erato

Perhaps they mistook it for the Pneu de Cartes ballet?

Maybe we have failed to fully recognise ALL the functions of Stravinsky's music.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

This 4 cd set arrived today ! Hurrah !

I was pining away for these recordings for many a year. They finally issued in an attractive package.

It's pricey on Amazon .com but I got it for $65 CAD on Amazon.ca. That's about $51 real dollars.

More operas by Antônio Carlos Gomes. These Brazilian issues, long OOP, are not easy to get at affordable prices, but patience has its rewards  :)

The label Master Class was really imaginative when deisigning the covers of these issues  :D

Prologue:

Anyone else think this is . . . peculiar (even for Amazon)?

No fair. The free bonus offer was missing from my copy.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Sergeant Rock

Arrived today, Bruch and Mendelssohn Violin Concertos played by Kogan; Maazel conducting the RSO Berlin. Recommended (the Bruch anyway) by Draško.

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Couldn't recommend the Mendelssohn, never heard it. My Melodiya LP has faulty pressing of that side, no visible damage but skips incessantly.

Some catching up with what is probably my favorite conductor/orchestra combination of current time:

I've heard them play Brahms' 2nd live few years ago and it was superb. Their previous Beethoven (4 & 6) I thought was ok rather than exceptional, but Fischer's live 7th with Concertgebouw (youtube) is excellent. Mahler 5th looks conspicuously slow, which is rarely to my liking, but their batting average in Mahler is so high that I'm willing to indulge them on this one.

"Notturno KV286 for Four Orchestras"

So credit for Gruppen really belongs to Mozart.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I recently requested recommendations for Dvorak's Cello Concerto and Perényi's name came up. I had not heard of him but the description of the performance was compelling so I bought this version....

....and the CD has now arrived.

Is that the same one as this (I can't quite make out the text in the Laserlight)?

Please forgive ageing eyes but as far as I can tell the only difference is with the coupling; the Laserlight has the Hindemith Cello Concerto as its coupling.

I have that. Both interpretations are to be admired. Actually, the Hindemith is outstanding.

Qigang Chen is a fascinating composer - not well-known in the United States, but well worth exploring. He combines a variety of techniques - very fluidly - for a unique sound. In 2009 I wrote about that Virgin release for Juilliard - a marvelous recording. Hope you enjoy it.
