That certainly is a great cycle IMHO (and seeing the man conduct Bruckner's Fourth live in Spain a couple of years ago was an occasion to cherish). But for less than double the price of the Bruckner set, you can get Skrowaczewski's Bruckner, and his Beethoven, and his Brahms, and his Schumann (complete symphonies of each), plus some Bartók, Chopin and his own music, in this 28 CD set:
Even cheaper at Amazon FR:

We seem to have made this the SuperDuper Sets thread, not the Bargains set.
(Of course, I was the first to do so.)

And unlike AmazonDE, it is currently in stock there.
45 € for that set at AmFR qualifies as SDCB in my book  :)...but should AmFR run oun of them, there's 11 availabale at AmDE ("Nur noch 11 auf Lager [mehr ist unterwegs]")  ;).

At the price you'll get excellent interps of symponies 3 and 7 - really among the best - and good shots at the composer's other symphonies.

That being said, if the music is what you're after, you'll get other recommendations. Mine would be [

b]this set[/b].

Simply because that's the closest to a real concert hall perspective with one of the best orchestras in the world under a totally dedicated interpreter you're likely to  hear.

This may be my favorite cycle of all.

Or you could just start using German Amazon in English (see right below the search bar).  8)

I see that there's a budget reissue of Chailly's Bruckner cycle.
[asin]B0197E73AO[/asin]

Thank you for that - especially for a reminder that my collection currently lacks a complete Bruckner cycle (and any recordings of 1-4), but found this:

on dodax.co.uk for £12.45 plus free delivery.  Perhaps not all Wand's greatest performances, but seems to be highly recommended all round.

That's a great Bruckner set right there! You'll certainly enjoy the sense of architecture that Wand brings to Bruckner. One of the most important aspects of a good Bruckner conductor is their ability to make this, at many times, stop/start nature of the music flow evenly.

P.S. That's a great avatar! I don't think I've ever commented on it before. I take it you're as big of a Nielsen fan as I am?

Well, for a mere 36 euros you can get Wand's Bruckner and MUCH MUCH MORE! (28 discs, this from Amazon.de)

It's all good...

Yes - I'm currently the silly version of you.  Big fan, no question, only a shame he's so difficult for amateur performers.

I heard a few Wand Bruckner performances in London in the 80s & 90s, so he's always been on my most wanted list.  I just happen to have a large PayPal balance at the moment (having sold son's old model railway on eBay for what seem to me ridiculously huge sums) and Dodax is one of the few outlets that accepts it - so I may be spending more time & money there...

Great to hear (about your Nielsen appreciation). I never heard of Dodax before. Is this like Presto Classical or something similar? I'll have to check it out.

Unfortunately, that would mean spending money on Brahms, which I'm temperamentally, physically and even logically incapable of doing.  The product description on am.uk is worth a look, though:

I really really wanna hear Stravinsky's Nella Pulchi suite and his Deonbateun Oaks.  Can someone have a listen on my behalf and report back?

I came across their Amazon store first of all, but unlike some Amazon MP sellers they also have their own site.  Not very comprehensive, I don't think, but it's their acceptance of PayPal that I like, my rule being that I can only buy CDs with my balance - even moving it into my bank account isn't allowed.  And they're also very cheap for what they do sell.  There is a .com US version, too.

FWIW, I do not think that Wand/Cologne is competitive with Chailly, Haitink or Skrowaczewski *as far as sonics are concerned*. Other than that, it might be as good a bargain as any.

Very nice. Thanks for the information. I'll investigate them further.

I can also endorse Dodax as I have used them a number of times and I have found them to be reliable.

I've been looking through their site and right now I don't find them too competitive, especially when it comes to Amazon third-party sellers.

Somewhat cheaper then what it costs me at JPC - but with JPC I'm expecting a properly stuffed parcel, while with amazon the outer box will at least be somewhat crushed ... so I let my order run, 3€ for proper packaging is quite alright.
