It's an easy hit?

If the Schoenberg Op.42 lacks anything, it must be a rimshot  8)

This is the piece to suggest to the "I can enjoy some Schoenberg, only none of the serial works, thank you very much" set.  Très aimable.

Are you familiar with the Skalkottas piano concertos, Karl? They can be even more engaging.

Not as yet, Tasos; I am sure that I ought to be  :)

Hi Andre,

Listening to the Ninth as well:

:)

I am just forming an interest in the symphonies of Bruckner.  This recording was recent purchase and even though it's not well-regarded in the Bruckner thread, I quite like it.

Is this a recommended starting point for Danielpour?  Thanks.

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)

First listen to any of Šejna's Dvořák recordings.

I haven't heard the 9th under Abbado. But his big grin on the cover seems quite inappropriate to the music at hand. What was DGG thinking ?  >:(

Danielpour: yes, it's a good starting point, although I think this one is even better:

.

It was originally released on Delos with a different cover art. I like this disc very much.

Inspired by aligreto, revisiting an old friend in Einar Englund.

Like aligreto, I'm listening to Symphony No. 2 "Blackbird" and Piano Concerto No. 1.

Thank you!  :)

Both are wislisted.

I have a hunch that DGG was more into marketing Abbado first and foremost here.

Quite agreed. Horrible cover and Abbado isn't up to par as a Brucknerian either. He doesn't have the right feel for this composer at all. Personally, I never understood why him and Bernstein even conducted Bruckner. Bernstein's recordings of Bruckner's 9th are some of the worst recordings of this symphony I've ever heard. Talk about no feeling whatsoever for the composer.

Listening to Konzertmusik, Op. 50. Great stuff.
