What would Holst's Planets sound like if written now?

I'd certainly love to see a composer try and do a movement for Earth, using Holst's vast forces.

You're in luck.  Such a piece exists and its very dynamic.

Well, even if Holst was born later, your hypothetical piece would:

1.) not sound remotely anything like Holst as we now know it.

2.) not sound remotely like Holst's The Planets as we know it.

Hope that helps ;-)

Best regards.

I'm guessing there would be a lot of influence from Specialism, Minimalism and electronic music.
What IS specialism????? I keep thinking you mean 'spectralism' but you're keeping this really consistent.

Indeed, the same has me wondering if it is a misheard transliteration or something else... if the latter, a natural curiosity has been pricked, so I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop (so to speak.)

I pioneered Specialism, but I am surprised if it is already exerting an influence!

That's the url I get when I sign in to Spotify. I don't know what happens if you use this without signing in. Probably an error message.

Or just go to Spotify, sign in (or up), go to Nicola Sani, Elements.

It used to be on youtube, but has been removed.

I too, wonder what the **** specialism is. Are they composers that value themselves as unique or something???

of course its a typo

Your best typo to date, imho, is 'Armature Pianist,' and bless you for that one ;-)

I do think "Specialism" has some real potential for a mordant definition and as a comment on a particular younger generation, Ha!

Oh man, that's harsh! I happen to love the work. I mean do I listen to it very often? No, but it's a masterly work IMHO and very much deserves it's popularity.

The severe irony that this comment on The Planets
"It would sound just as kitsch, bloated, pompous and ridiculous as when it was first written."
was made by a person whose screen name is 'The Perfect Wagnerian.'
...well, that did not escape my notice and I found the irony not only perfectly apposite, but a tad delicious as well ;-)
