I also never thought of Morton appearing as shabby as any composer has ever appeared on a classical music album cover. What on Earth was the cover designer thinking when he/she chose that photo of him?

That really is an unflattering photo of a composer. It almost looks as if he was photographed coming out of a seedy establishment. ("Hey, what'd you take that photo for? I'm meant to be incognito.")

But the more I look at the cover, the more I think it's a mini-Morton Feldman swizzle stick floating in an enormous raspberry-flavoured slushy.
That isn't the issue really, as Morty always looks like that in every photo.

I didn't know that. I know very little (Translation: nothing) about Morton Feldman.

But the next time his name pops up in conversation (Likelihood: zero), I can pretend to know everything about him and casually mentions this: "Of course, everyone knows his full name is Morton 'Shabby' Feldman."

Thanks, North Star. I'm listening to it now.

So I'm guessing Morton isn't known as a tunesmith. More a "Let's have lots of static sounds" kind of guy.

When does the marching band come in?

The last part -- 21:25. :D

Feldman's about as static as it gets. But, he does it so well. His music breathes.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Excellent.

I must admit that's the quietest marching band I've ever heard.

As well as all those Holy Minimalists (I'm looking at you, Arvo Pärt...).

That's pretty slow breathing.

Indeed ;D . It is very organic sounding. As far as that quality goes, I relate it (of all people) to Bartok.

Actually, I never thought about that comparison with Holy Minimalists. Interesting...

When you get a second, I sent you a Personal Message.

No problem.

Well, what do you know..

(and the disc itself is pretty good as well)

From that angle it looks like a 3D image, as if the dog's ear is sticking out of the cover's surface.

I quite love this one.  When not playing Bach they make 1970s Satanic S&M videos.

It's all good...

Hmm, yes, are those claw marks in the upper left corner....?     >:D

Hmm, did the Denon team run out of time before issuing the cd?

Oh dear.

I just noticed: there's a white square in that white square.

Just in case you were looking for a better quality cover:

Time to fire up the ol' thread again. (The last post was in February.)

I just saw this cover, and was immediately annoyed:

I love owls, and I love black-and-white photography, but for a classical music album cover I think that photo is pretty shoddy.

For a start (and it's a very big start), the artist has her eyes closed. Grrr.

For another start (this is a smaller start), when I looked at the photo properly (i.e., more than spending two seconds being annoyed by the artist's closed eyes) I noticed the lens flares scattered about the image. Grrr.

At least on the back cover her eyes are open:

But still: Grrr.

Very funny.

I don't know if this counts for this thread, but I thought it was mildly amusing:
