This cover has at least two things that make me go "Wha?":

That cover came directly from Newton Classics' blog, so presumably that's how the graphic designer actually wanted it to look.

This one is from AllMusic, and I prefer the colour of Valery's face here (it's a lot less red), but unfortunately the things that make me go "Wha?" are still there:

That came from the Newton Classics blog, so presumably the graphic designer actually wanted it to look like that.

The cover also appears over at AllMusic, this time with Valery's face in a colour I prefer, but the things that make me go "Wha?" are still there:

I prefer the first. Demonic possession.

Thanks for making me laugh out loud, O Ken.

As for "demonic possession", I think Valery's bloodshot eyes help him achieve that "Essence of Evil" look he may have been going for there.

I guess Valery decided not to use any of his "I'm really a family man at heart" photos for the cover.

Yep – among other things. (The more I look at that cover, the more I find to annoy me.)

Scroll as I might, I didn't find this old favourite of mine:

I must have overlooked it, since the survey looks fairly exhaustive. Anyway, I'm not sure it would qualify for this thread. It looks mighty good to me.

It's there, but in another part of that website:

Also on that page is the slightly less alluring back cover:

I like the first one. It's really very clever.

Side note on that cover and its proud claim of 33 1/3 RPM Long Play...
Am now in that part of the Big Rubinstein Box which covers the early 50s, and a host of Original Jackets with that motto.  Which to 2015 eyes is laughable, since the longest is about 50 minutes, while most hover at the 35-40 minute range, and some do not even break the 30 minute mark.

Hat tip to Todd on the purchases thread.

butterfly from hell...

Did we have these already? (the first one is by far the worst)

Unhelpful Information: I've seen the first one before, but I'm not sure if it was on this thread. The others I hadn't seen at all. And I'll be happy not to see them again.

I do, too. Perfect for the piece. Except at first glance I thought he was on a surfboard, not a magic carpet.

Ghastly cover,...fun album.

Sarge

The cover for The Jazz Album is making a reappearance on this thread because I just bought the CD.

Here's a nice big cover to replace the tiny, tiny cover:

And I'm with you, Sarge. I like the album.

By the way, EMI have reissued it plenty of times with different covers. Take your pick:

2006

2007

2008

2012

I thought it was a surfboard too. But then I had a closer look and realised it's an LP.
