Peace  0:) . A 'worst cover' thread is not really worth any amount of bad blood, is it ?

What'd you expect from Scarpia? The guy is incorrigible.

Not content with abusing the Cyrillic and Armenian alphabets, they also torture the Greek alphabet for no discernible reason.

And the conductor is...Loris Tjeknivorian?  How is that supposed to be legible?
I haven't seen anyone mention it, but that is part of the 'theme' of that series. I have others and they are all like that (or were when ASV was in business). I must admit that I was never a huge fan of the covers, thought they are distinctive and easy to find in a pile.  Here are some others (but there are more):
[asin]B0000030SQ[/asin]
[asin]B00000JWJE[/asin]
[asin]B0000030WK[/asin]
[asin]B0000030UJ[/asin]

By the way, the last disc is outstanding (and well worth having to deal with the cover).

EDIT: When one has several of the discs/covers, there is a certain consistency in style to possibly admire. They seem less likeable when you only look at them one at a time.

I think the wrong use of cyrillic letters is fairly horrible. It is very confusing if one can read even a little cyrillic (because one starts oscillating between the alphabets) and while it is probably not meant in that way to me it also clearly smacks of western ignorance (because it works best if you associate the foreign shapes only with latin alphabet letters) and condescendence.
What would have been wrong with covers having both a latin transcription of the names and the cyrillic (or maybe armenian) versions for "atmosphere"?

Precisely. I know the Russian alphabet and, for instance, for the third disc I read, in a mixture of Latin and Russian letter, "Ridio Soiserto" instead of "Piano Concerto". Awful, simply awful.

The background is out of focus. Sorry, I couldn't resist

I was playing that album just last night. Is it the photo that's the problem? I assume he's going for an Arlo Guthrie / Woodstock / disillusioned returned Vietnam vet look there.

I can't speak for the original poster, but perhaps the garish color scheme is at issue.

It was on Scarpia's Schnabel example as well.
I am now working on a discography of the works of Vagn Holmboe. Please visit and also contribute!
