Now shooting out the US remaster with the original UK Island CD (1971):

Let me know how it works out. I have neither.

A much closer run thing than most original/remaster shootouts, but the old Island still wins for me.  It's smoother and warmer.  The remaster is excellent by today's standards, with no compression or NR and good EQ (perhaps a fraction brighter than the original but very little in it).  As one would expect with better mastering technology the remaster has more detail, and sounds "sharper".  The old CD is just a slightly smoother, more analog listen, which I prefer.

So.........how's it going with the new one?

It's a three-CD set, available only at Target for the low price of $11.98. :) Two CDs by Prince, and one by his protege Bria Valente. I have only sampled a small portion of these recordings so far, but am pleased with what I'm hearing. Retro, but good retro. "Chocolate Box" was an immediate favorite.

New album. Psychedelic hard rock.

Any other PK Dick references there?

Speaking of new psychedelic, have you heard the Akron / Family?

Not sure about the PKD references yet. Judging by the song titles, I think not.

No, I have not heard Akron/Family? Tell me more.

Michael Gira, the founder of the Swans, discovered them and produces them on his label.

Heard the news on the BBC last night, Russell.  Anything from the movie Firefox on your cd?

There's a broad range of scores on this 2-disc set, but not Firefox.  I didn't realise he did that movie.  I remember loving the book but thinking the movie was just OK.  Is the music worth a listen?

This is quite beautifully played by (for the most part) the City of Prague Philharmonic:  http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Maurice-Jarre-Film-Collection/dp/B00004NRRB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1238418770&sr=1-1

It has never been released on cd, or on any format for that reason I believe, Russel. http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/forum/displayquestion.php?topicid=2737

Was hopeful that there was a snippet of the music on your compilation.  They like to do that sometimes so folks like ourselves will buy the cd for a 2 minute queue.

I enjoyed the movie, but like yourself, the Craig Thomas book I thought better.  Did you ever read Firefox Down, the sequal.  Also a very good read.

Martha doesn't signal when the orchestra comes in, she's just pursing her lips.

GREAT album.  Played some last night for my dad through the speakers he gave me that we used to have in our living room when I was a youngster.

More Can.  The title track reminds me of the hook from Joan Armatrading's "I Love It When You Call Me Names".  What next  ???
