Yes, good music making. I have not listened to any Brahms symphonic cycle in quite some time. I am now three quarters way through this one.

I listened to her 4th yesterday. You're in for a treat when you get to it. Excellent performance of that Scherzo!

It's a classical era morning. This is Savall/Le Concert Des Nations' first recording of Eroica, and Mozart's Mass from Fricsay & Co...

Graupner, Christoph (1683-1760) - Harpsichord Music w/ the wonderful Geneviève Soly - now listening to the first two volumes - will do the third and fourth recordings this afternoon - own 6 CDs of these Soly Graupner works and just did a MP3 (320 kbps) DL of V. 7 from Qobuz (my first order there - has been mentioned here multiple times so will give the place a try!) - the latter received a 5*/5* review on AllMusic HERE, for those interested.  For those just getting into the harpsichord or 'dislike' the instrument, on of these discs will be enlightening.  Dave :)

The whole series is an absolute delight yo me!  :)

Graupner's output is a major highlight in the harpsichord repertoire.

And we got Harry on board as well....   ;)

It has now become New Music Sunday!  Thanks for the introduction, Karl.

Not yet. It's in my shopping cart for this weekend, with some others of his orchestral works.
Excellent!

Not only that. I quite agree with him when said it's the best thing Elgar ever wrote.  :P

I'm kidding, of course! But that movement was quite ceremonious and fun indeed.

I love 'The Waggon Passes' from the Nursery Suite.

A very detailed version revealing more fine points than most others, possibly at the expense of forward momentum. Playing (strings especially) and recording are spectacular.

One of the truly great American symphonies IMO.

I bought a download of Cipriano de Rore's La Vergine from the always reliable Hilliard Ensemble.  The singing is fine, the music wonderful, but the recording sucks.  It is riddled with distortion, overload, and breakup.  I have no idea if the physical media presentation is the same.  What a shame.

This complete set of Berio's Chemins cycle is a lot of fun, though I wouldn't recommend listening to all of it at once.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No.5 in E minor, op.64. Evgeny Mravinsky, Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra

Wow, what a performance. As for the music itself, it's a lot better than I realized, and this performance really brings that to light. Tchaikovsky was an amazing melodist, and not half bad as an orchestrator too. I'll be spending more time with this 2CD for sure, but I think soon it will be time to explore the complete cycle. If only Mravinsky recorded the first three symphonies...
