Wordsworth: 2nd Symphony.

A splendid symphony. Hard to fathom why Barbirolli and the BBC had a problem with it.

I agree. I think that's more of a comment on Barbirolli than on Wordsworth.

Cecile Chaminade.
Callirhoe, Ballet Symphonique, opus 37.
Concertstück for Piano and Orchestra, opus 40.

BBC Concert Orchestra, Martin Yates.
Victor Sangiorgio, Piano.

This female composer goes right up to my personal pantheon of greats in the ballet music department. She is great in every respect. Ballet music in such quality was a rare phenomenon, especially for a woman, who was not to consider a career in music.  A delightful discovery that made me very happy.
The Concertstück was a revelation too, showing how serious she could be when demanded. That she ended up writing so many small miniatures, was for the reason of money. You could earn more with salon pieces. Like Victor Herbert said, "You can keep your ideals, I want and need to earn money"
Sound is state of the Art, and the performance is also on that level.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Lepo Sumera.

Musica Tenera.
Triangle solo, Lars Hannu.
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.
Symphony No. 4, "Serena Borealis".
(Electric guitar solo,Jan-Olof Jonsson)

Kalle Randalu, Piano.
Malmo SO, Paavo Jarvi.

Starting with the beautiful piece "Musica Tenera", such a powerful and evocative piece. A lot of harmonic expression, and a steady pulse. Hits a nerve with me. One of Sumera's strongest compositions. The concerto for Piano starts almost from total silence, which makes a huge impression, especially when the it opens up after a few bars. Mystery abound, and an almost doomladen impression is born out of the mist. The Fourth Symphony is a masterwork, with a plethora of moods for the grab, and will immerse you deeply in the musical core of the composition.  Sound is okay, knowing that von Bahr did the recording himself. He is certainly not a high flyer in that respect. Performance however is sublime.

Guitar music by Heitor Villa Lobos (Preludes, Etudes) is actually very good music to start the weekend with.

Boulez: Repons

Like seeing cells mutate in front of your eyes to form a strange and beautiful new creature. An extraordinary act of conception, and indeed execution. A very marvellous thing indeed.

I was waiting for that   :D,wonderful music  :)

It is, indeed. :) At first, I didn't care much for Poulenc's piano music, but then I started to investigate the music further and realized there is actually more depth there, then I initially realized.

Yes, indeed. Just out of curiosity, what do you think about the other members of Les Six? I like Poulenc, Honegger and Milhaud a lot, but I'm afraid I just don't know the other three very well (Tailleferre, Auric and Durey).

I've heard a few works by Auric and Tailleferre, but I haven't heard anything from Durey.
