Of course there were fewer known Vivaldi scores, let alone recorded, back then when Stravinsky said what he said.

You mean he should have added another few over-agains?

Florigelium plays Brandenburgs

I can't figure out if this is a period-instrument Beethoven or an unusual modern chamber orchestra, but it has Giant Pounding Timpani of Doom, which is a good sign:

(sound samples)

"immediately following the death of his wife Jane, David stopped work on a disc of recently written British piano sonatas and turned his attentions to this second Chopin programme in memory of Jane. Wilde's Chopin is not for the timid: these are performances fuelled by passion, performances that combine heartfelt tenderness with deep personal grief."

Anybody who's heard David Wilde's earlier discs will be eager to hear this.

"exceptional Japanese pianist Nami Ejiri approaches the late works of Schubert on her GENUIN debut CD. Alongside the great Sonata in B-flat major, she plays the Four Impromptus, D. 899 and the more rarely played Allegretto in C minor (D. 915).... [she] is not one of the thundering piano virtuosos – but she can give Schubert's music all the sharpness and weight that it requires."

In addition, sample sound clips are now available for these. Click image to go to sound clip page.

Will someone please listen to the sample clips for Carmignola's Bach concertos and tell me if I'm deluded for thinking that he makes them all sound a whole lot like Vivaldi?

And finally, in an unusual and remarkable political gesture, Naxos is reissuing numerous volumes of Ukrainian symphonies from the Marco Polo label, performed by Ukrainian orchestras. I wonder if a Hong Kong Philharmonic series is next.

Super-Duper Cheap Bargain thread material!

Still sounds a lot better, for starters.... ;D

I'm sure people do not line up the streets for a complete Buxtehude, so some future  progress towards the 150 mark might be on the cards... ::) 8)

But Ken, you have chosen to become a hermit in a desert wasteland :'( :'(  When will you come back to us? The CDCDCD thread is moribund. Your CD jewel-boxes are yellowing and cracking with age.  I heard a rumor that, becoming delusional due to dehydration, you you recently claimed HvK is the cutting edge of "the HIPPY movement".  We are worried about you, my friend. An intervention may be called for. What's your credit card number and 3-digit code?

Sure, that's good for you,but what about Ken :'(

For, is it not written:
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes in front of his web-cam. Then he calls the CDCDCD community together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'  I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing at GMG over one tightwad who repents his parsimonious ways than over ninety-nine who have maxed-out their credit cards at Amazon.de."
