Wonderful! Some outstanding works on this recording. It appears Neschling is doing a whole Respighi series as this is his third recording (if I'm not mistaken).

Respighi - smurf-a-tized ;D

Sad note on the back cover of this McCabe release.

Nigerian (!) pianist Sodi Braide has recorded Schubert's D. 899 and 960.

Claire Huangci has good taste in Scarlatti. According to this interview, her favorite past performers of Scarlatti sonatas are Pletnev, Zacharias, Michelangeli, and Maria Tipo. Also, before recording this album, she sight-read "at least the first half" of every single sonata, trying to select her favorites and put them in a recital order.

By the way, looks like MusicWeb will be sending me this.

Eugen Indjic is one of the many Joyce Hattos (he was the Joyce Hatto who did Chopin).

Wanderer

I'm not familiar with the pianist, but I'm really looking forward to this (due for release in early June). Most of these transcriptions haven't been recorded before. For the Mozart K466 D minor concerto transcription Alkan provides a superb cadenza which blends themes from the concerto and the Jupiter Symphony.

I'd buy it just for the cover image. Love it.

Does anyone ever call him "Kitty"?

The new erato

Naxos is starting a series of the Bacewicz quartets:

The new erato

....as well as a series of the Quincy Porter quartets (I have the New World set, and they are a fine body of work):

The rest of the Naxos July releases, not counting erato's or the stuff I posted 2-3 pages ago:

"Widely performed and winner of numerous prestigious awards, Benet Casablancas is regarded as one of the leading Spanish composers of his generation. His music engages profoundly with the legacy of the first half of the 20th century, combining a refined and personal harmonic palette with a sharp attention to textural detail and a strong sense of dramatic and narrative form. The works in this world première recording span almost forty years of Casablancas's output, from an early tribute to Mompou in Dos Apunts, to his recent musical expression of Japanese verse in the two sets of Tres Haikus. "

About the Mozart: for whatever reason, Naxos' cover does not mention the double bass player, but there is also a double bass in these arrangements, so 6 players in all. Color me irrationally intrigued to hear this! Just like I'm irrationally intrigued to hear the Alkan Mozart transcriptions Wanderer posted.

Obviously, this is a reissue from the Marco Polo release and welcome one as this recording has been OOP for quite some time. I don't know much about this composer, but the kind of music he composed which is in that 'Oriental Russian' kind of style like Rimsky-Korsakov or  Lyadov certainly has my interest piqued.

And a welcome one but I wish someone would record her four symphonies!
