[...] you realize once again that he was one heck of an actor.  Another of these is Karl Malden.  Too bad many folks only remember him doing commercials for American Express.

You could have knocked me over with a crêpe when I saw him in Hitchcock's I Confess.

Thread Duty:

Last night I watched Sleeper.  I cannot explain it, but I must never have seen it before:  too many elements and moments which were completely new to me.

Three Billboards

Which is excellent and unusual. Three great performances too. The best Harrelson has been since Cheers.

Cool.

Thread Duty, again:

Last night, Dial M for Murder.  Perhaps not essential Hitchcock;  but a classic, and a superb cast.

I saw it years ago, possibly when it first came out or soon thereafter.   The only thing I remember is the Orgasmatron....

Romeo + Juliet

I'd forgotten how frenetic and hot-headed it is. Which is exactly the point.

Seems I'm not the only one who thinks so. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/nov/01/romeo-juliet-baz-lurhmann-leonardo-dicaprio-claire-danes-20th-anniversary

If the movie has a fault, it is busy/crowded. It may be, he soon learnt that less is more.

A thoroughly satisfying weekend for movie watching. All 4 films were great.

That Agnes Varda doc starts here in a week or so. I'm really looking forward to it.

Nightcrawler

An interesting storyline.

The Bar - latest from one of my favorite Spanish directors, Alex de la Iglesia. It's another pitch black comedy of human condition. Bunch of random people get trapped in a bar when an unseen sniper starts shooting anyone who steps out. As story progresses it becomes dog-eat-dog scenario of survival for the protagonists. Dark and funny, as usual with de la Iglesia. Blanca Suarez in the female lead is quite gorgeous and I'm obviously getting old as I couldn't recognize that I've seen her in two films previously.

Available on Netflix.

Okay, so I watched [the Daniel Craig] Casino Royale again last night.  Dang, but it's good.

One of my last bluray purchases while l was still able to watch them, and l heartily agree. Imho, Craig makes for a near-perfect present-day Bond, rivaling ( some might even say surpassing ) Connery.
