Good acting all around.  Even from Matthew Lillard.  Whoda thunk it?  Nice to see Beau Bridges riff on The Dude, too.  A fine movie to see once.

Folks who've seen him in movies other than Scooby Doo?

I haven't seen those movies, but I saw Hackers and some of Scream (couldn't watch it all), and found him to be rather unremarkable at best.  To be fair, those are both perfectly hideous movies, so I know I shouldn't read too much into any actor's ability.  But then, looking at his body of work, I can't say that he looks like he's made much I want to see.

Not on my part, I find the film hilariously delightful. I'd rank them in this fashion:

1. Batman Returns
2. Batman (Keaton)
3. Batman (West)
4. Batman Begins
5. Batman and Robin
6. The Dark Knight
7. Batman Forever

I think I would rank them

1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman (Burton)
3. Batman Begins
4. Batman Returns
5. Batman (West)
6. Batman and Robin
7. Batman Forever

Switch #2 and #4 and that would be my list, I loved Burton's first Batman, but have grown to loathe Nicholson's Joker.

I also enjoyed it.  Could have been a great movie except for the obsession Clooney's character had with finding the man who had an affair with his wife.

I must object to your use of hideous and Hackers. Hackers is an amazing cyberpunk flick, and given the role he was supposed to play in that. He did pretty well. All of that young cast did though.

Scream is pretty generic, and I can't recall a single thing about it save that mask.

I can see Cesar being a top choice, very animated, but Jack just seemed like an impersonation of Jack doing Joker but sounding an acting just like Jack...did the make sense? :-\

Most of the times I feel that way about any Nicholson performance...only film I feel differently about was About Schmidt, he'll break your heart in that film.

I found Jack to be more sinister. I thought that sort of Joker suited him well. I just found Heath insanely hammy.

Heath Ledger is frighteningly intense.  Cesar Romero is delightfully hysterical, Mark Hamill is the balance between the two... and Jack Nicholson plays Jack Nicholson! :D

If you haven't seen (or heard more like it) Hamill's joker check this out:

Forgot about Hamill, he's been doing Joker for a while, even for the video games, right?

Yes, I really like his realization of the character.

Cesar Romero was perfect for the old campy series, to be sure.

Yup he did indeed do it for the video games too. :)

And I thought I was being kind.  Sorry, but any movie with Fisher Stevens as the bad guy is doomed to be a steaming pile from the get-go.  In that regard, Hackers did not disappoint.

Agree.  But in the context of the film, it worked.  I have not seen all the Batman films because, well, it should be obvious.  Of the ones I have seen:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman (1989)
3. Batman Begins
.
.
.
4. Batman (1966)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
5. Batman Returns

I hope Christopher Nolan delivers on the third movie.  And it looks like fans of the Bat only need to wait until 2015 for the franchise to be relaunched . . .

I have no doubts Nolan will deliver, you always fear for the Sam Raimi curse of the third being the worst (Spider-Man 3), and based on trailers and knowing the story behind Bane I like where this Bat-chise is potentially heading for its conclusion.

Lots of emphasis on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character in the new trailer.  ::)

And favorite Bruce Wayne/Batmans everyone?

Even though Dark Knight is so awesome, Bale is not my favorite.  His Wayne is too stiff and stoic.  It is even worse that he is next to Michael Caine who effortlessly acts rings around him.  And then Bale's Batman growls out all of his lines... ::)

My favorite is Michael Keaton, his Bruce Wayne is charming and clumsy with that hint of sadness and his Batman is no Mr Mom!  He is 100% badass.  I like Adam West, but Val Kilmer and George Clooney gave throwaway performances.

Will Nolan direct it and will Bale play Batman?

I think that is because SPOILER speculation (highlight to see) Levitt will be the replacement Batman after the old Batman is either crippled or dead

Michael Keaton, by far.

No and no.  Nolan will produce, like with The Man of Steel.  See David's spoiler for one possible scenario.
