What does your collection look like and how do you organize it?

Both CDs and LPs are arranged alphabetically.

Very nice, but what about all of those discs piled up on your table? Are those in any order?

That is the lazy part of me. They are listened to, purchases but not listened to and a quite a number yet to be filed away again. I am surprised that you ask; I thought that was quite normal around here

Nice set of Quad's BTW!

Thank you. It took me quite a while to find a good working pair but they were worth the wait. That is my second system as she who must be obeyed would not allow them downstairs  :)

That looks very nice, and quite a bit like a creative artist´s studio as well ... I like the colours, it adds an airy lightness to the room, somewhat "Nordic" :).

I were offered a pair of magnificent 890's at a good price, but could not reasonably fit them in the house, even though my wife is very tolerant (and tolerated an even larger set of Acoustats for a number of years)

:) Don't mind me, I'm just being nosy. ;) But, seriously, great looking setup you have there.

The new erato

I have a tableful of discs under processing in front of me as well.

Rebooks only. The three walls surrounding this contains jazz, blues, rock, hi-rez titles, DVDs and some various other things.

I envy the clarity of such an organized space.
Nice to be able to identify some of the items on the photo too - quite a lot of Bach and Shosty, it seems ...

Mister Sharpe

Arranged broadly by genre :  classical, jazz, rock (very little of the latter) and then alphabetized and fairly well, but recently due to remodeling have had to split classical into three alphabetized collections requiring, at times, some effort to find individual titles.  I admire those who arrange by historical period - very interesting and challenging, that.  A friend of mine tosses the jewel cases (and inserts) and retains only CD's in paper covers and accompanying booklets.  Savings in space is surprising.

Thanks. One shelf of Shostakovitch, three of Bach (give or take an Allegri disc or two).

Yes indeed, size is a big disadvantage with Quads.

Thank you for that. About six or so years ago I lost my job during the recession and to keep myself sane during the time while I got a new one I converted the attic in my house to hold our collection of music and books. I did all of the work with the exception of painting the clouds. A friend of my daughter did those but I insisted that he show me the technique so that I could also contribute there as well. The blue ceiling was obviously an attempt to imitate the sky and the green carpet tiles is supposed to imitate grass. I have a few musical instruments up there but that is as far as my creativity goes these days  :)

Thank you; I like "getting away" up there. I too am always curious about other people's set up  :)

What amp are you driving them with?

(I have ESL 63s and a studio quad solid state amp now, based on the 606 (it's called 520f) using a passive preamp. I'm toying with the idea of exploring a subwoofer. )

I have two systems in my home both of which I drive by valve amplification. I drive the Quads with an Italian amplifier, a Synthesis Shine exactly like the picture below [not mine, a Google Image]....

Had to move the collection upstairs while renovating the basement. The jazz music is in the bedroom and the classical collection, much to my wife's horror, is in the middle of the dining room.

Not sure how long I can leave it this way before she starts tossing discs into bins... or onto the street!

Remarkable collection. Looks like your collection is also well-organized. You should do a YouTube video and take us on a tour of your collection and perhaps even point out some of your favorite recordings.

Watch out in case she needs new coasters for that very nice dining table  ;)
