Brass Hole

lol oh boy this sounds like something I don't want to hear:

"2017" is a 32:55 orchestral piece Lindberg describes as follows:

:What happened between 8th November 2016 and 1st January 2017 was so shocking and alarming to me that I felt almost paralyzed psychologically. What brought me out of that shocked state of mind was an idea about my new work: I would start composing it on 1st January 2017 and finish it on 31st December, and thereby it would become my testimony concerning the year 2017, both its environmental and political aspects. I followed the news daily – MSNBC, CNN, BBC, The Guardian, Fox News, The New York Times etc – and decided to let this information feed my inspiration and creative process. I kept to my plan and wrote the last bar of the piece exactly on 31st December 2017. The process had a huge impact on me personally, and in particular I learnt to appreciate some of the brave, intelligent and honest journalists around the world who are stubbornly fighting fake news. Because of this I finally decided to dedicate the piece to the American journalist Rachel Maddow."

How long is his "2020" piece gonna be if he writes one?  ??? ??? And who will it be dedicated to, Joe Biden?  ???

uh anyway

Waves of Wollongong sounds cool though, it is a concerto for NINE trombones and orchestra, three alto, three tenor, three bass.

Sounds like a must miss! If he's inspired to write a piece like this that looks like it doesn't mean anything at all, then imagine what he would write if he ate a banana that was the best one he ever had? What would he call this piece? The Dream Banana which is dedicated to the hard working people at Chiquita.

There is nothing especially cool about Wollongong as far as I'm aware... except possibly the surfing conditions? What's his spiel for invoking it?

Alternatively, Waves is a live music venue that on Google Maps is described as having "Ocean views, steaks and live rock'n'roll".

It arrived this afternoon. The sound is very good, the harpsichord, a 17th century Ruckers which has been very lightly modified in the 18th century, a petit revalement. It has some beautiful registers and benefits from an 8' stop. The readings are contrapuntal - I mean he finds opportunities to create tensions and dialogues between the voices - and intense (as opposed to lyrical or dramatically extrovert) I'm noticing this more than in vol 3, which I listened to the other week. Very exciting for people who get excited by such things!

The name itself sounds cool to me.  :D

Coollo, man!

There's also Oodnadatta, Wagga Wagga (the locals call it simply Wogga), Tumbarumba, Woolloongabba (the Gabba cricket ground in Brisbane) but my favourite is Woop Woop. 'Woop Woop' is an Australian slang term for somewhere as far away as possible and was originally an old mill town south of Perth WA. It's not there any more and the nearest centre of population is the town of Wilga.

A Romanian equivalent is "La dracu-n praznic" literally meaning "Where the Devil threw his party".

Actually it appears that the mill was named after the mythical place, and not the other way around.

ATMA will release the complete mélodies of Jules Massenet (320 of them). They will be sung by 14 singers (all francophones) and the whole thing will occupy 12 CDs, boxed in 3 sets. The piano is an 1854 Erard. Other instruments are called for depending on the score's requirements (harp, cello, guitar). The first box will come out in the Spring of 2021.

Quintessentially Aussie! What I like is that at one stage they actually had their own footie team.

A lot of Albinoni, for those so inclined.  I suspect far fewer anniversary year releases for this composer than, say, Beethoven.

A few times I've thought Ms Zhao should record more.  Then I remember she's still only in her mid-20s.  Plenty of time.

Jonathan Dunford, Jerome Chaboseau and other friends play some suites, including a bit of Marin Marais and Caix d'Harvelois, and a lot of Cappus.
