I expect the Gulda to be a lot of fun.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL more than ever!

and for those who may have lost track of Leif Ove Andsnes' complete legacy on EMI/Virgin, here's a tracklist for his big box:

It's not a bad piece of music to have recorded over and over again ;) A recent favorite is one conducted by Andrea Battistoni.

The same can be said about the symphonies by Bruckner, Mahler, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Schubert, Shostakovich, etc etc etc.  :P  ::)

I would humbly suggest that all of the works you mention are 'greater' than the Roman trilogy.  And I say again I really like them!

Congrats on the 3000th post!

I have to stick up for Treviño because he is local to my area of Texas and went to a nearby school. Glad that Ondine is putting the proper ñ on the cover.

It doesn't justify the excessive recordings of the same stuff over and over again methinks, but then again the record labels need to make money by pleasing the majority of customers or common listeners.

While it goes without saying that I would've rather Treviño recorded some of Respighi's lesser-known orchestral works, it's worth keeping in mind that his previous recordings for Ondine (Ravel orchestral works and "American Landscapes") have been really fabulous, so there's serious potential for this new Roman Trilogy to be first-class!

Fair point!

The "excessive" recordings are "justified" by the fact that people want them and buy them.

I have enough recordings of the Roman Trilogy to last a lifetime, but there are other pieces for which I look forward to "excessive" recordings.

Record companies are businesses, not public utilities, and to survive they have to be profitable.

I can't think of many many with Italian orchestras, just La Vecchia and Chailly (though Chailly doesn't include Roman Festivals).

Yes, agree, but I'm not that impressed by his French suites.

Well actually I'd love to hear him play WTC like he takes the first couple of  suites. Real slow and expressive.
