For those who like such things. I don't think there's anything here that wasn't released the four big DG boxes over the past few years.

Hmm. I quite like the idea of a sacred and choral box, but does he have a reputation for that kind of music?
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Karajan has conducted and recorded choral and sacred music countless times throughout his career: Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Verdi, Bruckner. He kept returning to the same works time and time again.

A baker's dozen of new releases from CPO for 2017.....

That's a lot of sampling just to see which ones I might like.

Does anyone plan to get any of the above?  Does anyone want to recommend a couple?

Indeed, and now that I've looked at the contents of the box, they've decided to document him recording the same works time and time again. Haydn's Creation three times, and Mozart's Requiem three times. And some other works twice.

No thank you. Those who know me will be aware of my general dislike of collecting multiple recordings of things, though it does happen from time to time due to overlap between collections. But there's no way I'm going to be buying a box that is about a third larger than it needs to be because they couldn't be bothered choosing between recordings.

Georg Philipp Telemann is one of the composers whose cause Ricercar has always championed with fervour.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of his death, Ricercar now presents a reissue of its vast repertory, which makes up a complete portrait of the output of this inspired contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach: his sonatas, trios, fantasias, concertos and suites written for all sorts of instruments are accompanied by several sacred compositions, cantatas, and a St Matthew Passion which, like a number of other works in the set, is released on disc for the first time.

This isn't for repertoire collectors, this is for Karajan collectors. With only one or two versions of dome of these works on the shelves, one wouldn't be likely to end up with Karajan anyway.

A fantastic cover, good enough to tempt me to buy (though the Poulenc Stabat Mater on HM has remained in my wishlist for months).

As good as it is, I was still able to make some improvements.

Madiel

No, those are not improvements.
