D537, 568, 784, 840, 959 & 960. I may or may not be more curious about this than the Lonquich.

960/I seemed utterly mainstream and middle of the road. Do we really need another mainstream 960/I?

Oops you're right, not that interested then—I know that box & don't like it. Was hoping these were new live recordings. I guess I'm probably back to waiting for a Piet Kuijken or Alexei Lubimov (and in the meantime still have my Badura-Skoda, Hobson & Cooper)

"Let's start our own record label! It will be the same repertoire we've already recorded 18 times, including 7 different times with Karajan, but now it will be in giant oddly formatted luxury editions, and it'll have Simon Rattle instead of Karajan, and we'll charge double or triple the price that people expect to pay!"

- Berlin Philharmonic

When you have that kind of brand name, it works.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

This is mostly Kirkpatrick, recordings which I haven't heard before and very very nice too, glad to have found it. Several pieces are fragments and the effect of an unexpected ending is disconcerting but not unpleasurable.

Just spotted this.  Alas, there is no physical media release.  On the plus side, I can stream it.

The new erato

They are already recording a New Azzolini album of the bassoon concertos.

Good.
To be honest, I would prefer they de-emphasize the operas in favor of instrumental music and whatever non operatic vocal works remain unrecorded.
I am a bit puzzled. The original write-ups said there were 15 operas in the Turin corpus.  This newest one is the 17th in the series, so I am wondering how far afield they are going.

I am of the completely opposite opinion.

I've got several of the new ones already. I hadn't seen this new Azzolini though. Damn.

I have volume 6 of the Violin Concertos; it is Biondi and Europa Galante sounding as though they never missed a day playing together. Their e minor RV 278 is really special...

Phantasm play Matthew Locke. For those who know Phantasm, and their tendency for incisive articulation rather than fluidity and lyricism, will get what they're expecting from this recording. It's fascating to compare what the do with Locke with Fretwork and Savall.

Hyperion in February:
- Shostakovich & Kabalevsky Cello Sonatas (Isserlis/Mustonen) - ooooh
- Liszt - Années de pelerinage, Year 3 (Tiberghien)
- Hubert Parry - Piano Trios 1 & 3 (Leonore Trio)
- budget box set of the 4 CD series of Martinu violin and orchestra music with Matoušek/Czech PO/Hogwood

Also from Hyperion soon:

"The prospect of a little-known Saint-Saëns orchestral work might not set the heart racing, but just wait until you hear 'La foi'. ... He himself thought well enough of the score [written for a play set in Egypt in 1909, in the style of his Egyptian concerto] to extract Three symphonic tableaux, taking the passages he liked best and stringing them together with extensions where he felt the drama had cramped his inspiration. As a result, listeners need not concern themselves with the action of the play. This is perhaps no loss when one passage of dialogue reads: 'She's gone into the river.' / 'Surely she has to in order to collect fresh water?' / 'But just at the place where the crocodile has dived in!' / 'No problem, she's wearing an ibis feather ... and I know the words of the magic spell.' "  ;D ;D

Sound samples from this rarity; as far as I can tell it's been widely available only via EMI/Michel Plasson: https://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_CDA68201

Those Martinu discs are very, very fine.
