I'd say the odds of more than one person having the same name are, you know, fairly high.

Of course. But adding the Simpsons into the mix was an obvious next step...

I haven't watched The Simpsons much in recent years, but it certainly would be notable if an episode popped up with a virtuoso lawyer-pianist.

Few people are aware that Van Cliburn used to write amicus curiae briefs as a hobby.

Fascinating! I'll add that information to his wikipedia page right away.

NOVEMBER GOODIES!!!!

A 10 CD box

Look at those timings - and look at the first CD being 88 minutes!!

Commissioned by the Orchestre National de Lille and recorded here for the first time, it is a concerto for serpent that showcases the splendid sound of this low wind instrument, a member of the brass family even though it is made of wood covered in leather. "Adh Dhohr is part of a cycle I wanted to write focusing on the Salah, the daily rhythm of Muslim devotion," says Benjamin Attahir. "This piece refers to the noon prayer, when the sun is at its zenith... The musical form is constructed around this zenithal moment and unfolds concentrically around it... I wanted- as in oriental music- to return to the strictest monophony, which is a rather unusual project in concertante music. Soloist and orchestra share a single voice between them."

NOVEMBER PART TWO!

That Nutcracker is an 86 minute single hybrid SACD.

"In this new recording, Ales-sandrini has mounted a challenge to all currently available recordings of those four Orchestral Suites that Bach called 'Overtures', after their imposing opening movements. We don't know when these dance suites were composed, nor where they were first performed, but they were certainly played in Leipzig at the time Bach was directing its celebrated Collegium Musicum. Here Alessandrini has once again sifted all available sources, putting the composer's entire output under the microscope to identify the most authentic details of style and orchestration. The result is a subtle balance between Bach's intricate contrapuntal writing and the spontaneity of his dances, with their French and Italian influences. Together with these majestic, festive, radiant works by J.S. Bach, Concerto Italiano presents two Overtures in the same instrumental mold by Johann Bernhard and Johann Ludwig Bach –two composer cousins with whom Johann Sebastian enjoyed lifelong ties of mutual friendship and esteem. During his Leipzig years he had their Overtures copied out, so he could perform them with the Collegium Musicum. Here then is a welcome opportunity to hear these two superb orchestral pieces in the contemporary context of Bach's own music."

I believe this sets a record for the most labels for one cycle: three.  (And I don't even have to wait until 2020 to get the last volume!)

I posted about it earlier in this thread...something from the Bonn years, preserved as a fragment. There's also a fragment from later on known as PC 6.

I was  disappointed to see that Egarr's not giving any concerts with Sweelinck. The market for harpsichord concerts which aren't based on Bach must be very limited, but you'd have thought he could fill a small hall in Amsterdam.

Gone are the days when people would experiment in concert before laying down their considered opinion on a recording!

You are responsible for a lot of temptations! I should ban myself from reading your posts on this thread  ;)
The Bliss looks especially tempting as I like the John Blow work very much. The Antheil cover is terrific and I have collected the earlier releases in that series.

The new erato

How nice to see Chandos go back to the stuff they do best, Bliss and (?) Terterian. And the Suzuki box looks like a must have, thesecular cantatas in general are underrecorded.

The Antheil symphonies are quite good, but I guess I will have to do with my quite OK cpo's.

That's what I thought too!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Thank you both. Of course I could have googled it myself, but I decided I'd rather hear the explanation from someone here. :)
