Better than another Beethoven/Brahms/Bruckner/Mahler cycle... ;)

I am looking forward to that Nielsen cycle more than the four you've listed. I was quite keen on Bychkov's Mahler cycle as his performance of the third symphony is one of the best, but after hearing four and five that enthusiasm has been tempered.

Popped on the radar.  Hopefully the playing matches Armstrong's and indicates a trend.

Why?

Because the registration Brottier chooses for this short fugue by Roberday IMO is quite unsuited for Titelouze, and we do not hear other parts of the organ in this "clip"..
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

There's clips of Berben playing Titelouze on YouTube

It's playing chez moi now, and I think it's wonderful!

Yes it sounds indeed wonderful, thank you for the link my friend!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Thanks, very convincing clips I think. I have already pre-ordered the set a few days ago.

Oh yes, record labels can sometimes be too unimaginative recording the same works ad nauseam. Rather pointless in my view.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Naxos is dumping this as a digital-only release, no physical CD. 58 minute Daphnis.

That's annoying. I was all set to buy the four Slatkin Ravel CDs. Hopefully, eBay has the Daphnis disc.

This is listed (with the addition of Une barque sur l'océan) but it doesn't say whether it's a CD or a download (or even where you can buy it).

Update: Amazon has that CD.

Amazon says it was released in...2017?

BTW the ASIN tag seems to be working again

Excellent.

Very weird, I wonder why they have repackaged a previous CD issue, still in print, minus one single track, as a download.

Hammerklavier-at-80 Experience (don't know if this is live or studio)

And early 2023:

Interesting that Pollini (or DGG) has decided to put out another version of the Hammerklavier. His efforts from the mid 70s would be hard to beat.
Cheers

I would say impossible to beat.

I was being conservative Todd. I have the 70s set and thinks it's amazing.

Pollini's 70s recordings certainly rate among his best efforts, and it is hard for me to envision how a new recording will add to his recorded legacy.

It could be different, even if it is not better. Aside from Pollini's extraordinary technique, he is a great artist. As a person who admires his artistry, I am interested to hear how his view of the work might have changed.

It will be different, there's no doubt of that.  I am a big fan of Pollini up into the aughts or so.  Some of his more recent recordings reveal he is past his prime - his third Brahms PC cycle for instance.  Thankfully, I will be able to stream rather than have to pay for a disc.

Most intriguing.

Love to see the volume one designation.
