Thanks, great, I have that one. Flimsiest box set packaging I've ever seen, by a considerable margin.

Will it appear?  ( shines Vandermolen beacon into the English skies ... )

Haha - thank you!

Quote from: dhibbard on October 24, 2023, 02:46:57 PMsome of his organ works are available on Naxos.

Oh, yes, I'm a confirmed Alain organ fan - have Marie-Claire's set on the Intrada label with the very sweet picture of big brother & little sister on the cover - but his other instrumental and vocal works seem completely unexplored.  (I still laugh over an occasion a number of years back, when we had a visiting organist in church and instead of the programmed postlude, some innocent Baroque minuet, he gave us Litanies - never seen the church emptied so quickly  )

But yes, must give Eric Lebrun on Naxos a listen - on a Cavaillé-Coll instrument, no less.

Should have found the Aulos from Japan, it had the best box I ever had.  It had a magnetic seal and was very sturdy with a nice texture.

Literally half the box (21 out of 42) is Sibelius.

This is an expanded version of the previous set but better presented. It was the first CD release AFAIK of Berglund's excellent performance of Nielsen's 5th Symphony.

Ha. Why choose between Sibelius symphony cycles when I could have all of them...

Honestly, that's a little ridiculous.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

All three Sibelius cycles in one handy box.  I've but one of them.  Hmm.

My copy of the Helsinki cycle has a defective finale of the Fifth - it skips endlessly. I'd happily replace it if, after a year or two, the Berglund box gets as cheap as the Jansons/Oslo box is now ($55ish).

And I don't have any of the non-Sibelius contents at all. Only the Brahms Double looks like a miss, and only the Andsnes will be a duplicate once I buy the Andsnes Big Box.

WOW! I hadn't heard of this set for some reason. Thanks for mentioning it, Brian!

Exciting news from Toronto:

French record label Harmonia mundi has announced a new, three-year partnership with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

This new collaboration follows the appointment of Spanish conductor Gustavo Gimeno as the TSO's latest music director. His tenure began in the 2020-21 season.

The first album to be released under this new partnership will be Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla-Symphonie with pianist Marc-André Hamelin and ondes Martenot player Nathalie Forget. It's scheduled to appear on Feb. 2, 2024.

That will be followed by Igor Stravinsky's Pulcinella (complete ballet) and Bela Bartók's The Miraculous Mandarin.

Apart from tons of other great stuff on Finlandia, it would be great if they boxed up the whole "Meet The Composer" series.

I like him.  Traditional and well structured.  Reminds me somewhat of RVW and Shostakovich.
